Default Exhaust setup for the Z

I'm thinking about getting an exhaust setup for the Z but there are so many choices on which one to get. I'm looking for something a little bit louder then stock but nothing to drastic. I also want the best bang for the buck. I'm thinking about getting the Nismo Cat Back Exhaust System. Tell me what you think pros and cons on the Nismo or any other setup for that matter. Thanks for your input.

I thought Nismo was more on the expensive side. If you're looking for best bang for the buck, I made a short list of what I'm going to install:

cai: $60 (oem with box)
headers: $589 (borla)
hi flow cats: $645 (random tech)
exhaust: $799 (borla true dual)
ecu: $500 (technosquare)

If you find better prices, let me know.

I have heard instances of where the Borla headers have cracked. I have also heard of them producing minimal to no power gains. With that in mind, I would go for the DC ceramic headers; cheaper and produce documented gains. I have also heard of the RT Cats failing. SO if you can live with a little raspiness, I would spend about $180 for a set of Helix test pipes; if you are in a place where emissions isnt important of course. Lastly, I would go with the Injen SES dual exhaust instead of the borla. It looks better, but it is very loud especially with the test pipes. It also have about half as many pieces as the Borla system does. Borla consists of 17 pieces. I would also recommend the ECU reflash, but I dont have it yet.

I see you are in Cali so emissions is important. Then go with Kinetix cats. They are around $340-360.

Thanks for the informative reply. I certainly do not want my headers to crack. And with no gains, why replace them?

Test pipes are a no-no for me. Cats only.

BTW, this setup is SO not better looking than Borla:

I'm looking for a stock look, not rice. If at least the mufflers were straight, not angled, MAYBE. Otherwise, I'll pass.

I'd strongly recommend against Borla headers....next to no gains

DC Sports are the way to go for affordable but decent gains. Budget no option, the Crawfords look to be the way to go

As for cats, we only use and recommend the Ultimate Racing ones...perfect fit, CARB approved, and 50k warranty, wiht no rasp

Been using them on my car for a year now

As for exhaust, its been said 1000 times - makes zero difference if you go true dual or Y pipe + catback - get what you like the look/sound of

Just to give my opinion...I had Borla, switched to injen wit the straight tips. Best decision i ever made. Looks 10 times better than borla, sounds 100 times better than borla. Ive seen the angled tip of injen, it doesnt really look "finished", i guess thats the word to use. With the angeld tips that have the nice polished and injen engraved tips...looks awesome.

borla exhaust comes with like 20 pieces, thats more chances of gas leaks.

I dont trust borla products. You pay for what you get. enuff said

INjen is nice but as far as sound goes it doesn't nearly sound exotic like some of the other exhausts out there.

I went with the Borla exhaust for the sound. I wanted something that was a bit deaper and still quiet. But when you put the loud peddle on the floor it still opens up and lets everyone know to get out of the way. I love the look of the Injen, but I wasn't sure how it would sound (nobody had it when I got my Borla). In the end the Borla was exactly what I was looking for.
