The clicking noise is something to do with a rear bearing. My car started to make the noise after 24000 miles. Nissan replaced a bearing, UJ and boot kit. The car is now fine. Apparently my local garage has had 3 other cars with the same issue.

Part numbers:

43210-al505 Bearing Rear Axle
39211-73L00 Joint Assy
39241-73L28 Boot Kit

I hope that this help!

How often do you hear the clicking, does it happen all the time or just occasionally? Car has 26k miles and just started to hear a click from the rear, but not very often. Does the clicking go faster as you drive faster?

No it just use to click once or twice pulling away from the lights or when slowing down. If yours has started, take it in under warranty, Nissan know of the problem.

On a separate subject is anyone else experiencing problems with the car holding a straight line. Mine has got to the stage where you really have to concentrate to keep in your lane, loads of tram-lining, and it has become sensitive to turbulance coming off trucks and SUV's. Tracking is fine and the car has never been in an accident. Any info gratefully received!

Thanks for the info. How is the tread on your tires, are they worn out, time for new tires?

I have the same problem. I noticed this started around 22k.
It just does that at startup.

Tires are fine, loads of tread, just a little roar due to the feathering that everyone seems to be plagued with.

There is a post a few line below this one titled clicking noise in rear, will suspension mods void drivetrain warrenty?? If you go to this board and scroll doen you'll see a link called axle clicking. That link will take you to the Nissan TSB and show you what is casuing the noise.

I had the same issue on my 03 at about 26k... actually drove it for some time with that issue but got it handled at 26k. It sounds identical to my issue... light clicking or soft clank noise under load from stop and often while driving if you hit the gas hard with the windows down you can hear it. It's an issue with the threads on the axle shaft being cut a bit too shallow thus even if the main axle bolt is tightened properly, there's still a little bit of slack in the bearings... this is a known issue and there's a repair kit which has a ton of replacement parts... I had to take it in three times before they finally ordered the kit... I don't know why but it did. Got the window streaks fixed, had the bad allignment from the factory thus went through front tires... got that fixed and two new tires. Still have the seat rocking click, but I'll wait a while on that. Also have had plenty of squeeky brakes fixed... other than that, best car I've ever driven Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. Mine is like a slight cranking noise I will take it into dealership. Do you know if having aftermarket springs would void my warranty for this?

There is a TSB issued by Nissan for the clicking. Search around on this site and you will see it. I had both rear axle bearings replaced and the clicking problem has been fixed.

I don't think the mileage on your car has any thing to do with when this happens. My car is making the noise and I only have 8K miles on it.

Default click noise over bumps

I have a clicking noise while going over bumps and occasionally on acceleration. Took my car in for service they first thought it was due to cross member to the B-pillar now they think it's the suspension. They inspected the bearings and said they're fine. They had the car for 2 weeks now and still can't diagnose the problem. Any ideas?

is it a clicking sound or metal on metal sound? I had the rear clicking tsb done and after that my car started to have this problem. Recently my car has started to make a loud scratching metal on metal noise when in reverse or slowly accelerating forward but after a few seconds it goes away. Is this the tsb we're talking about or could it be the indicator pin on my brake pads hitting the rotor?

For me it was sheet metal on the frame of the b-pillar. When the sheet metal bends it touches the frame and makes the noise. They had to weld it in the body shop. Now the noise is gone. The dealership says they've never had this problem before.
