I am just saying you prolly drive your car harder than most people.

Redline MTl/MT90 are great for the 6MT , no modifiers and hence better cold sychro operation.
I knew of redline also, I just couldnt find a website.

I thought I'd chime in here..........I have had the 4th-5th, and also, 5th-6th gear grind for months now. It happens at all speeds, rpm's and usually when you are driving next to a carload of hot women w/ the windows down. So, if nissan has a problem "duplicating" the problem, tell the bastards to drive in close proximity to cars loaded down with hot women.

Anywho, back to the topic.......my car is an early '03 model. Oddly enough, I have never grinded 2nd, or 3rd gear...only 5th and 6th ?!.......go figure. I guarantee it's not driving style, or driver's error......when the tranny does this, its absolutely unavoidable. I have on numerous occasions just went from 4th to neutral, sat there for a few seconds and then slowly eased it into 5th gear and it still rips one getting into gear........it usually follows with a glorious encore going into 6th.

Mine is a 04 model and it "clunks" from 1st to 2nd, especially when its cold. After warm up it smooths out for the most part, but during the cold period and sometimes after its warmed up you have to really bring the revs up get the 1st to 2nd shift to sync up smoothly.

Anyone know of any aftermarket replacement trannys for the Z?

You should try Redlne MTL/MT90 (50/50 mix) first. It could resolve cold weather , stubborn syncro issues. If you were in a hot climate or tracked regularly I would suggest straight MT90.

I've used it, works great for track and warm climates , but Redline MTL/MT90 works much better during cold operation. RP MAX has friction modifiers , gret fro LSDs , not so great for cold Syncros operation.

i've also had the 5th gear grind problem, for me its only when downshifting from 6th to 5th, i have not taken it to the dealer yet but i will probably this monday coming up, driving style has nothing to do with it, seems like the car does it more when its warm than when its cold, you have to go into neutral and then wait half a sec and go into 5th for it not to grind, i mean a normal semi-fast downshift will cause grinding, its not supposed to be there, if they dont want to fix it call 1 800nissan1

If you are not, you should be "blipping" the throttle any time you downshift. 6th->5th, 5th->4th etc. It will speed your downshift and extend the life of your syncros.
