Dude, that's such bull. A TSB outlines a factory defect. There's no reason whatsoever that the consumer should have to pay out of pocket for a factory defect, warranty or not. If you purchase a used 350Z with 125K miles 8 years down the road from now and its bearings creak, then you can drive the 'ol girl down to the dealership, give them the VIN, and have the work performed free of charge.

I always tell Z32 stories, and here's another. Nissan issued a TSB back in 1990 for their PTU. Nissan will still swap the PTUs on those cars free of charge, even after 15 years.

So...why does it seem to start for most people at about 8k miles. Myself included. This is strange indeed.

How come the fix in the above TSB says to replace bearings and the TSB 04065A (with the same problem description) says to lubricate the axles? Two solutions for the same problem?

The funny thing is my service manager said he replaced the bearings, but referenced the 04065 TSB.

But even if there isn't a TSB, problems with your car should be covered under warranty regardless. Having a TSB simply makes things a bit easier. Gives the mechanics something to watch out for, and can make it easier to diagnose since they are made aware that there is a widespread problem to keep an eye out for.
They are nice "IF" the dealership service dept will honor or recognize the TSB. If not, then your basically sh*t out of luck. The dealerships can basically do what they want.

I started hearing it on my 03 last week. I only have 14k miles on it but 6 track days. I wonder if high heat from tracking caused the bearing failure ? Anyway, I won't have it looked at until after my next and last track day of the summer. That and the other problems that I have accumulated:
-Worn seat
-Tire feathering again
-Steering wheel leather peeling off
-Rear brake caliper leak.
