Default Passenger window rattle, only when the window is all the way down?

Hey Everyone,

So I'm in the midst of a heavy audio install here, and just as I got my doors all finished, dynamated and put all the plastic trim back on, I noticed that my passenger window rattles really bad but only when its all the way down. The driver side window on the other hand is perfectly fine. If the passenger window is even a little up, it'll stop rattling completly (because of the heat, I just noticed this now, as I usually drive around with my windows up).

Has anyone run into this issue with an 05 Z? And if so (or any other issue with the windows perhaps), what would the dealership do to fix such a thing? Would this fix require them to rip off all my brand new dynamat (GAH!)?

Thanks in advance!

did you change out your front speakers. If you did, then I guarantee you that your window is rattling against the magnet of the new speaker when its rolled down. Pop the door panel back off and raise the spacer up alittle bit more, should take care of it.

good luck

Thanks for your reply Tackett,

If I open the door and hit it (not too hard) with my palm, you can clearly heat it rattle towards the back (end?) of the door. So I'm pretty sure it isnt hitting the magnet of the speaker (I also looked into the space from which the window rises from, and there is quite a bit of space between the window and the speaker...

Could it be something else?

Hmmm....I dunno then.

I only mentioned the speaker because mine does EXACTLY the same thing, and rolling the window up slightly remedies it. If its not the speaker than I have no clue what else it could be....Try totally removing the speaker and see if it still does it.

Ooookay so I've got this same exact issue. Old *** thread, back from 05, but nevertheless I'm not about to start a new thread when this already exists. Has anyone got some light to shed on this - I have 1" speaker spacers and therefore I know for a fact it's not my speaker magnet hitting the window.

My driver side window started rattling when rolled all the way down after a speaker/dynamatt install. Also, it doesn't give me that half inch of clearance that it normally has in the past when opening/closing the door. My passenger side window is 100% fine - no rattles, gives me the clearance, etc etc. But my driver side window props down only about 5mm or so and it rattles when I've got the window all the way down. The entire door is dynamatted..... which is making me uneasy because if I have to prop out that panel on the inside of the door to access the window/window motor, it's going to be the biggest PITA ever..... Can I access the window fixings without taking that off? Also, maybe it's just a bolt or two somewhere that weren't tightened after we put the door back together during the speaker install?

Someone pleeeeaasseeee shed some light on this for me!

it sounds like something wasnt torqued enough or has come loosed withing the door/window/window motor setup or repair.

or..... hopefully the interior door piece just isnt secure.

Hey Ronin, thank you so much for the reply!

The window motor was never worked on, that inside piece you need to take apart to access the window/motor has never been taken apart so I don't think something in there has loosened up... Again, started happening after I took the door apart/put it back together after speaker/dynamat install so I'm HOPING theres a bolt or two that's not torqued down properly. I'll take the door apart sometime soon and see if I can find anything. It's giving me about 2mm of clearance now instead of 5 so it's getting a little worse. I can also hear the rubber being "rubbed against" when the window goes back up - it's making me think the alignment is starting to act up dammit
