Default New Tire recall from nissan

Nissan, responding to continuing customer concerns over irregular front tire wear issues with its 2003 and 2004 350Z models, has announced plans to further extend the front wheel alignment warranty extension for owners of affected vehicles.

In April of 2004, owners of 2003 350Z vehicles were first notified by Nissan that it would extend the warranties to cover an irregular tread wear pattern which was occurring on the inner edge of the front tires. Customers with 2004 350Z cars were not included at that time.

After monitoring the situation, Nissan believed it had corrected the problem with the majority of vehicles, but not all had been fixed to customer satisfaction and some 2004 350Z owners also began experiencing the same problem. After investigating the issue further, Nissan identified that, in addition to correcting the front-end alignment, a new tire with a slightly modified tread pattern, more resistant to “heel-toe” wear together with correct alignment, virtually eliminated the issue. Vehicles equipped with these tires have experienced virtually no incidents of tire noise.

Nissan is extending the warranty for front-end alignment due to tire noise until 36 months from the in-service date or October 31, 2005 (whichever is later) and unlimited mileage for 2003 350Z models, and to 36 months and unlimited mileage on 2004 350Z models. Nissan says the warranty extension ensures all owners will receive an effective repair, including in some circumstances replacement of their front tires with the new tire design, if they experience tire noise during the extended warranty period. Customer notifications are being sent out starting this week.

Though the thread title would make someone think it is something else...

The above announcement isn't a "tire recall from Nissan"

I got my letter in the mail yersterday. Extends my tire warranty to 10/05 or 36 months from "In Service" date, which ever is farthest (as indicated). So, my fronts are covered until May 18, 2006. There were no mileage restrictions. This is awesome since my feathering didn't even show up until about 14,000 miles. I'm at 29,000 now so it'll be interesting to see if it comes back.

Edit: Oh, it also states that it is now covering the feathering issue for the 04's as well. I can't recall if it was the same coverage as the 03's but I believe so.

Yep! I got my letter yesterday as well...too bad we have to pay the % difference for the new tires depending on how much wear is already on them... ={

Figures, I just changed my tires and wheels. However the car looks MUCH better than the stock, not to mention ridding myself of the hideous OEM tires, those things absolutely suck.

What should I tell Nissan if I bought my tires from another person and have no receipt?

This is something that should be reposted several times or stickied, since it is a very important issue.

boma,

I don't think you will be able to get your reimbursement according to the letter a got from Nissan. But, you can always call them and see what they say about your situation. The number is 1-800-343-0294.

In the letter I received it states that you must have the following:
1: Day Time Phone number where you can be reached.
2: Proof of Repair including amount paid (Copy Of Invoice)
3: Proof of Ownership (Copy of Vehicle Registration)

And you can either fax (1-310-771-2775) them your documents or mail it to them. And you must have the document they sent you called Checklist for Riembursement of Prior Front Tire Replacement. And it should take 4-6 weeks for them to process your reimbursement.

Boma,

I can tell what Nissan is going to say, when you don't produce an invoice, "Yeah right!"

I am about to kill someone. I dropped the Z off at a local dealership this morning. They are now telling me that I have to pay 70% of the cost of the tires! This is insane! There are 6/32nd's and 8/32nd's of tread left on the fronts. Thus meaning, based off that chart on the warranty form from Nissan, that I should be paying NOTHING! Yet, they are telling me it's based on mileage! BULLSH!T!!!! I am so irate right now. Im gonna raise hell!
