Default oil filter part #?

Hey everybody:

I'm a bit confused about the actual oil filter part# for our cars. My parts vendor just informed me that the 350z filter (15208-VQ35DE) is exactly the same as the 1994- Sentra (15208-65FOO). I have every reason to believe my parts guy but it seems a bit odd. The Sentra utilizes the SR20DE motor, which is a four-banger. I've seen the Sentra filters and they seem too tiny for the VQ35. Could someone please shed some light on the matter?

Thanks...

Here is the part # for oil filter which is a little larger for more filtering that works #15208-9E000.

Hey Clyde:

Thanks for your reply. Which Nissan filter is OEM on our 350's? It seems odd that they would have filters in various sizes that fit. Would the larger filter leak oil?

Lastly, why do you think my parts guy sold me an SR20DE filter? He assured me that it was the right part but somethings just not jiving...

Now I'm wondering if I should send them back (I bought 2)...

Default filter size

there are 2 filter sizes that will work. The orig. is not as long as the number I gave you. Both are the same dia. but the # I gave you is about 1" longer and will allow more filtering. Sorry but I don't know the # for OEM.

I've got a SE-R (two actually) and the SE-R filter is a little larger than the 350's filter. The part # for a SE-R filter is 15208-53JOO, the stock 350Z filter # is 15208-65FOO. There is another slightly longer filter that will work, like Clyde said. When I went to buy filters for the 350 my parts counter guy brought both the stock filter and the longer one and said I will want to switch to the longer one once I was out of the warrantee, but for now use the shorter one because it was what Nissan says to use. Strange eh?
