Off to Korea for a year and the Z will be inside the garage all covered up. Here is my plan.

1. Put stock OEM 18's back on.
2. Park the wheels on carpet mats.
3. Change the oil and top off the gas right before I leave. (Fuel Stabalizer?)
4. Plug the battery into a battery charger.
5. Car cover and pad the sides, never know about the wife brushing things up against the sides.
6. Wife is going to start it once a month and let it run for 20 minutes.

I don't want to lift it on jack stands and I really don't want to add the fuel stabalizer stuff, but I fear I might have to?

I am also storing my M/C the same way, but adding fuel stabalizer and disconnecting and removing the battery since the wife has no clue how to start a M/C.

Weird, I'm getting stationed in Japan for 3 years. I'm also storing my Z. But the government takes care of it while I'm gone. The people in charge are contractors and they take care of vehicles to factory specs. All in all I'm about to save at least 36000 miles. It's just going to suck being there without it.

 

I don't trust anyone other than my wife taking care of the Z.

 

that really sucks to store away the car... especially for 3 yrs! Why not just sell it and get another when you come back?

 

It will be covered except for once a month when they move it back and forth to prevent the tires from getting a big dent. The car is insured and the contractors are liable if there's anything wrong with the car. Up to $25,000... Seriously doubt any of my family members have that kind of cash.

Sell it? are you serious? Why do that, the SOB is brand new (bought it a few months ago). By the time I get back I would only have a year left to pay on it. And it will only have 5k miles on it.

 

Darn a year that is a long time, not as long as three like the other guy, but still wow. I would find that hard to pick up and leave everything including my wife for a year. Its none of my business what you do but anyhow be safe out there in Korea.

 

Its all about my future. This new job gets lets me keep my Top Secret Clearance, thus getting a potential 6 figure job after retirement and getting the city of my choice after Korea. I have been there before, no bid deal. I get to come home for 30 days after being there 6 months so really I am gone for 11 months!

Only thing I fear is North Korea, crazy bastards!

Have to be in country NLT Apr 06, but plan on getting there the first week of March and I will take 30 days (have 70 days saved up) of leave before I go, so I should be done working my current job, around 15 Jan 06!

Yes I am in the military (17 + years), 3 more and I am done and can collect that 50% paycheck for serving my country. Probably retire in San Antonio or Corpus Christi whichever Police Agency hires me first. Leaning towards Corpus Christi since thats where my parents live!

brimful the gas but NO fuel stabilizer- this ain't no Toro lawnmower

There is little prospect of fuel evaporation in the current sealed systems and 20 minutes of runtime per month for a year will not require too much gas.

 

I would get someone to drive the car every couple weeks if nothing else than around the block so the transmission fluid, and all the moving parts of the car outside of the engine (wheel bearings, differential, suspension, etc.) get cycled through.

 

Yeah, thinking of having the wife do that every two weeks, drive it around the block for about 5-10 and let it run 5-10 more minutes.
