Default Where is the mileage located?

Does any one know where the mileage of the vehcile is stored? (Is it in the ECU, or within the gauge cluster?)...

thanks!

No No...I'm not trying to do that, at least not yet.

I'm doing an investigation on a H2 Hummer which was stolen and partially stripped. The mileage of the vehicle is needed, but the gauge cluster was torn out...but the ECU is still intact-I'm hoping that the mileage is stored in the ECU, but from what I've heard from dealers, it might be in the guage cluster.

Anyone know?

Hmmmm…OBDII maintains a CEL history which may include date and mileage.

What makes you think that the way a Nissan 350Z works is even remotely the same as a H2 Hummer? I certainly wouldn't make that assumption. Now maybe if you were tracing an Altima, you might be able to get away with it since Nissan makes both (Altima and 350Z).

on most cars its contained in the cluster itself. I know every cluster ive ever swapped (yes digital) the mileage from the new cluster came with it, if it was a brand new cluster you got to set it to whatever you wanted. if set to anything other than original mileage, thats obviously illegal.
