Usually the cheapest way to go is to get the Canadian inserts for the guage and find a shop that does odom reprogramming. I used to work in the car business and in the us we would buy canadian cars and have the odometers changed, via reprogramming the chip, from km to mi... the company would also instal the guage insert so it would show miles on the outside ring instead of km... The funny thing is that it's concidered a little "Grey" so it might take a little work to find a company that does it. It is legal in the US at least.

Ive already got the canadian cluster, i can take off just the insert part , but then when im driving its still going to count in miles , since the 350z has no way to switch back and forth like some other cars.

I just dont want to stick on the canadian cluster and have the cars ecu mess up because it does not recognize metric .

You'd have to find a company that does the chip reprogramming. They actually do a kind of re-flash of the chip that's in the instrument cluster or wherever it is... I haven't heard of any vehicles that have the odometer information stored in the main ecu. The companies here that do it specialize in re-flashing the canadian chips so they read miles and they do it mainly for dealerships who are buying new canadian vehicles because of a difference in new car pricing for some makes in Canada. The funny thing is that all they do is reprogram the chip and then they have to put in the milage after calculating the conversion from KM to Miles... they could put in anything they want and that's the reason there's mounting concern in the industry and the practice is considered a little grey... not to mention the fact that they had to break the encryption on the info in the chip. I saw the guys do it one time... pretty cool. They have a module hooked up to their laptop and they put little clips to the connections on the chip. Then they run a program for reprogramming chips and they have another program for translating the encrypted data... It would depend on where the chip is that stores the milage. Hmmm... if you left the milage as it is, it would show less KMs driven than you actually drive?? That could be a mess. I'm sure there are some companies that can do it for you. Try to avoid getting the sticker on the door frame... in the US if you have your odometer replaced by law they're supposed to put a sticker showing what the milage was... but if you have the actual milage after a chip reprogram, you might not have to have the sticker... I dunno...
