Price is irelevant IMO if the chipping is as bad as some folks are claiming. No car should have bumpers that seem to be made of porcelain. Also, road conditions play as much or more of a role than "following too closely behind someone." I've had a windshield crack from a stone sent airborne across the median strip of an interstate. I also think certain colors are more vulnerable than others. Knock on wood, but my PPW has only one small ding near the headlight. Not driving the car much now - Winter sand and salt - except for short jaunts to the supermarket and carwash - but I plan on getting a clearbra installed once the warmer weather hits again. Too many dings also makes a good excuse for a new Ings+1 front bumper.
