Anyway, I have this same problem. I have about 60,000 miles and 5 years left on my bumper to bumper everything $0 deductible warranty. I am not paying for a damn thing.

Is there anyway we can get this thing in a recall level?

Can't our site make a petition? I'm sure other forums have the same issue as well with their Z's. $280 is just too much to have something fix for just a window.

That would be a great idea, we could start that easily enough. Get about 10,000 signatures. Doesn't matter if people have had the problem or not, send that off and get them to at least recognize that there is an issue.

I just recently started having this problem myself. I bought the car used and got an extended warranty (thank god). I've already had to replace an O2 sensor, $100 with warranty. Now the window started acting up.

I'm going to take it to the dealer and get an estimate right after I call and lodge a complaint. It will prolly end up being $100 again. But I think I would rather take the motor out and clean it first before doing that.

Post doubt there would be a recall

Both of my window motors and regulators failed and I got them replaced under warranty (I bought an extended warranty when I bought the car as well).

I doubt NHTSA will do a recall because it's not a safety problem. Read http://www.safercar.gov/pages/ODIFAQsRev2.htm for the process.

Some cars are notorious for having this or that part fail or just being unreliable, but if it's it's not a safety prob, there's nothing NHTSA can do.

Here are some quotes from the above site "If NHTSA believes the data indicates a safety-related defect exists, the manufacturer is asked to conduct a recall, the third and last step. If the manufacturer does not initiate a recall, the government can order the manufacturer to do a recall. "

http://www.safercar.gov/pages/ODIFAQsRev2.htm#od5 gives example of safety defects.

do it yourself and you can fix it back to brand new functionality, your motor is fine, it's just dirty as hell inside and shorting out from the gunked up metallic carbon

all z owners should get familiar with how to do this, because the dealer will eventually screw you in the end with warranty whithering away and $300+ prices for replacement; this is your free repair
