i've noticed those fans come on at a relatively high temperature in the Z. Believe me, they will come on when its hot enough.

wen you say check the power did you mean checking the supply line to the fans? did you also see if putting 12 volts directly to the fans made them turn?

the ECU sends a signal to turn on the fans, so if 12V to the fans turn them on, but the wire going to the fan doesn't read 12V, then either that line is an open circuit somewhere or the ECU is not sending the signal.

i have this exact same problem!

i have an 04.5 G35c 6MT.

i am in the caribbean and there are no infiniti dealers. the nissan dealer doesnt know as much about my car as i do, so im going to try to diagnose it to show them the problem before i give it to them.

here's my thread on the issue:

http://www.350z*tech.com/forums/Help...ms-t17171.html

edit- replace the * with a dash (-).. for some reason i cannot link to the site from here.

the short story is that at this point i believe my IPDM needs to be replaced. per my other post, I will be checking on a couple other things first. if you take it to the dealer, please let me know what they say/do as I dont have any experienced mechanics here and am resolving this on my own.

i just updated my other thread to make it current with what i've found. i still have to confirm that the wiring and fan motors are ok, but when i do that i will firmly believe it to be the IPDM. the ESM suggests that might be the problem as well.

btw I believe we are experiencing the same issue, and I believe the parts in both the G and Z that are relevant here are essentially the same.

im looking at the FSM iit talks alot about the IPDM in the engine overheating section but never show what it is( it seems to be just a harness)

ec418-429 is where you need to look...

in my car, the IPDM is behind the battery and to the left. in that corner of the engine bay. you have to remove the plastic over the battery and then remove the plastic over the IPDM.

for reference, the IPDM (intelligent power distribution module) is a CPU with fuses and relays on it. It has a data connection to the ECM, and actuates the wipers, lights, fans, a/c, and some other components.

The title is "DTC P1217 ENGINE OVER TEMPERATURE"

hmm are your lights working?

you can also see if everything is plugged in at the ipdm harness.
it sounds to me like something might have gotten unplugged in your case. i would follow the wires from the fans all the way to the ipdm e/r.
