I was at the dreaded dealership and they warned of the use of the K&N. I think it is another case of dealerships against the aftermarket. I found this on K&N's website:http://www.knfilters.com/massair.htm

There is also a MAF cleaner by CRC. I have not found it in stores near me or used it yet. Anyone else tried this?

 

I will not use any oiled filter in a MAF controlled car. A K&N ruiened a custom pro flow MAF I had made for my old ford, and it was the cause because the oil residue collected on the hot wire in the MAF. In this case, I think the dealer is right on. take it out and use a good dry filter element.

Even with a dry filter, it is a good idea to hit the MAF elements with a bit of electrical parts cleaner like the CRC you have there. They sell that stuff at any car parts store.

The dealer warned you because if you show up one day with problems and it turns out the be a fouled MAF sensor, you will be paying out-of-pocket for a new one. Some people refuse to use oiled filters for that very reason.

 

In most cases, the problems with oiled filters and MAFs are caused by people over-oiling the filters.... or at least that's what K&N will say.

 

I had K&N drop in filter. I put on HKS intake...problem with idles and stalling...put back the stock intake with K&N filter...dealer fixed it for free. THey replaced my throttle control and ECU.
