Quick Fix: Foot Rest Problem
I have read a few posts of people having the same problem. Their footrest is loose and moving around. This occured after they removed it to clean it. (Thats what happened to me). I figured out a way to fix this problem without having to buy a new footrest.
Step 1: Remove all the pieces of the footrest. Here is a pic of what they look like.
(dont mind the wet spots I just cleaned it)
The place where I am pointing 2 in this and the following pictures are the cause to the problem (atleast it was for me) The plastic "screw" thing that fits into this big hole is suppose to stop in this wedge. However this plastic is very flexible and after you removed it from the car it probably got stretched out.
Another problem I could think of was the actual metal screw attached to the body of the car which holds the plastic. I noticed that the plastic part will never truely "fit snug" onto this screw. My solution was this plumber tape or however it is. I just wrapped it around the screws a few times to increase its diameter and grip.
Now to fix the original plastic from stretching I simply used 2 rubber bands on each hole. I made it tight enough so that the head of the plastic screw did not fit. I did this becuase the rest of the "shaft" (go giggle ) has a smaller diameter.
The final step is to reattach everything the way it was. Remember when screwing those plastic screw things to the car to make sure they are holding tight and are not moving from side to side. If they do more add more of that tape (or any substitute you found)
And finally I appologize for the quality of the pictures...my camera sucks and so do my picture taking skills.

Good job fixing that POS. Nissan broke two of them on me already - and replaced them free of charge. But it seems that everytime I bring it to any shop they rip that thing off and it gets messed up everytime! I was going to buy one that screws in but I will try the plumbing tape first.

I have a slight modification to this fix. The teflon plumbers tape around the post really didn't do much to make the thing fit tighter. It's very thin, hard to wrap and slippery. I took some heat shrink tubing and shrank two layers of it to the posts. I found one that barely fit over the post and shrank it on first then the next size up that barely fit over it. I had to pound on the foot rest to get it back on the screw posts but it fits very tight now, almost no movment at all.

I can't remember how I ended up fixing mine. I think I just squirted some clear silicone in there...
