100,000 Z's in 7 months??
I was checking out a Z on ebay the other day and the VIN was something like 100567, I am number 1586 (I think) and at least when I was searching for mine they seemed to be sequential, so have they really manufactured 100k??
How full of **** were the salesmen saying Nissan (a company on the brink of bankruptcy) was going to limit the number of Z's made??
I am coming closer to listing mine in the auto trader with each passing day. I have a car that has problem after problem and a model that the manufacturer has absolutely saturated the market with. I started looking for comparable vehicles & will admit that you will not find anything like the Z for 35k. The comparable Z4 is 40k+ and the RX8 looks like an american concept car. Any ideas on what to consider or where I can find a really good deal on a 100k extended warranty??

I got the Nissan Gold Preferred extended warranty with zero deductible for $1299. They wanted $1499 but we negotiated it down $200. That was for 7 yrs 100,000 miles. You can buy them at any Nissan dealer and it is good everywhere in the US at Nissan dealerships. So go out and negotiate. I was also quoted at another dealership over $2500 for the same thing.
ummm link for ebay? there will be no more than 30k made per year, and I believe this figure may be world wide, but Im not positive.
for reference purposes, the corvette sells 34k a year, mustang sold 115000 last year(worst year in over a decade, ove 200000 sold in 2000) and I believe S2000 makes 5000 a year. so basicly expect as much exclusivity as the corvette.
S2000 is going to be the only one more exclusive. not sure what your looking at thinking there will be 100000Zs a year. no where near that many will be made.

Isn' t there a place holder in the vin just for the type of restrsint system it has?

This dealer also sells Z stuff for you and your Z.
If you go on the Nissan web site under the 350Z you can get the monthly sales reports for NNA. At the end of Jan, they're at about 11,000+ as I recall and Rahtok indicates. Something seems wrong with the VIN number on ebay.
There is a letter code for the vehicle restraint and it's in the middle of the VIN not in or near the serial number.

"includes a 240-watt 7-speaker Bose stereo system with subwoofer and in-dash 6-CD changer"
I don't think I'd state that as a selling point
"This car is hot and will easily beat a Porsche Boxster S as well as most other sports cars on the road"
Hmmmmm
"the local Nissan dealers tell me they'll be marking them up at least $3-5,000 above MSRP."
Hmmmmm
Methinks a mistyped VIN is quite possible here...

& someone else got a very good deal from. $30,800 is excellent!! I can't complain I got my RL Track for $30,500 just $300-400 over invoice in October. Needless to say I cancelled the one I ordered to be delivered in December and flew up to Maine to pick her up. She had 1300 miles by the time I got home but who cares : )
If you are thinking about purchasing one don't get ripped. Look on eBay for a deal similar to this or search in depressed states such as Maine. If you purchase it out of state you may save sales tax as well. I did finally get a bill from the GA Department of Revenue but I am told that 1/2 the folks that purchase out of state are never charged tax... Aren't I lucky : )

Only the last 5 number indicate the number of cars....so your car is in the 4000 range. Nissan is planning 30,000 Zs in the first 12 months for North America (including Canada).
Sales number for North America as of January is 16,825. As of today it's probably closer to 20,000. They sell about 3,500 Zs a month.
Breakdown of sales per month and total sales can be found here...

Where is a link that explains the first number? Not that I'm doubting you. My VIN is 104,xxx. So, it would seem that I have a car above 100,000, but as everyone said, and what would seem logical, they haven't made that many yet. Not that I'm worrying about it anyway, I'd just like the "clear-cut" explanation.

And what happens to that first digit once they do go over 100,000 (if they ever do)?
My red track is 104498. I assumed that the first car was 100000 and they counted up from there. I can't seem to find the old post but a fellow named avalonracing explained it that way. Seemed to fit the numbers of various cars on that post.
The first number is not part of the numbering of the cars. The number will never get close to 100,000. 2004 model will start over at 00001 with the 10th digit a '4' (for the year 2004 model).
The '1' does not count in the car numbering scheme. If the last 6 digits of your vin is 104498, that means you have the 4498th car serialized. Had you bought a car with side air bags your last 6 digits would have been 004498.
Hope that clears thing up a little.

Did you buy your Z at Charlie's in Augusta? I test-drove that car (don't worry, I was kind to it), and ended buying my Redline Track there in December.
What problems are you having with your car?
What problems are you having with your car?
The NNA site indicates they sold 13,253 in 2002 and 3,572 in Jan 2003 for a total of (drum roll please) 16,825 as abc123 indicates. This doesn't include sales outside North America. Anyone know what the sales are in other regions of the world???
Small world huh.... I don't understand why Charlies gave me such a good deal, but I certainly appreciate it. The entire transaction took 10 minutes. They didn't even try to sell me an extended warranty & I was out in 10 minutes. Everyone there was sooooo nice, everyone saw me off & they even put the paint sealant on free when they detailed it for me. I am actually going to call them about getting an extended warranty, I imagine they will cut me a good deal on it.
As for the problems.. I have about 80% of what I have seen here. I have paint chipping off my hood and bumber daily, the headlights have condensation in them every morning, my seat shifts when cornering, there is grease all over the window, the blinker doesn't always cancel, I am waiting on 2 new front tires, the sun visor buzzes, the keyless entry doesn't always unlock the passengers door, the trunk release will actually completely unhatch the trunk only half the time, the bottom of my shifter **** chipped and after being replaced it is not screwed down all the way and turns from side to side. Thats all I can think of off the top of my head... I am getting the extended warranty ASAP as Nissan's are notorious for bad trannys & the 350's seem no different. Don't get me wrong I still love the car and this is what I get for being the first kid on the block to have one. I hope Nissans warranties the repairs of everything listed. I must admit it was easier than expected to get my front tires replaced. We shall see how they handle the rest. I will let you know how much the extended warranty is
