gas needle won't go past the 1/2 way mark
I bought a used 03 Z and for some reason the gas needle won't go past the halfway mark even when I fill it all the way (third fill up) any ideas why this is happening? It works when the fuel is around the halfway mark (around 150 - 200 miles).

Fuel Senders
It sounds like it's your fuel sender, this is just my opinion. Your car has two fuel senders, so I'd take it to the dealer just 'cuz there better equipped to diagnose it.
Check engine light ever pop up?

I've talked with some technicians here, and they reiterated what I had said. That it's probably one of your fuel senders loacated in the fuel tank. I imagine it's hard to isolate which one of the two went bad so I think they would want to replace both of them. And this problem will not kick off a check engine light. We've done 'em here, which is why we stock them. They go for about 70.00 each. If you'd like part no's let me know. I'll give them to you. Good Luck

does the pump "click" or stop too early or let's say if you usually fill from E-F $30 worth of gas.....does it always stop at about half or $15 bucks worth and the pump keeps clicking off? I know there's a problem with - if not the sender unit - the element in the evap canister degrading resulting in a blocking or jamming the vent shut valve.....which that means they both gotta be replaced (in this case call Nissan Customer Service and see if they flip the bill) - just covering all ends my friend. If it's readily accepting the fuel without issues (i.e. 18 gallons E-F) then yes, sending unit WWEEEEEEEeeeee...I hear that's fun to try to reach

Thanks for the great info. It seems like it's getting the full amount...when I click the miles to empty it reads 283 or so with fillup? I'll have to take it in and see what they say. I'm hoping that it's not going to be a lot of $$. I just bought the car and it needs the rear tires replaced and the front brakes and rotors...

One thing you may want to try is a 20oz bottle of Techron with your next fillup, it has revived the sensors on a few other cars and can't hurt. The cleaning agents seem to have a good effect on the fuel level sensors.
