Exclamation rust around rear emblem

Go figure, I was drying my Z yesterday and detailing the emblems when I noticed a bit of rust around the rear emblem. I will be taking it to the dealer and mentioning the paint chips too. My car has just around 1600 miles on it.

Not happy at all about the rust already. Look around the edges.

By the way it IS garage kept and I am in San Antonio and not by the ocean (salt water).

Holy crap that's scary... here I am afraid to drive my car in winter. I wanted to take it out in April but I'm worried about all the salt on the raods if they aren't clean by then!
What's your VIN? Or is it a concensus that all Z's have crappy paint? Sorry to hear that man!

The rear Nissan emblem has 2 posts that stick through holes in the hatch lid. Sounds like the edges of those holes are not sealed properly. Dealer should be able to remove the emblem, repaint around the holes under the emblem and put a new emblem on without messing with any of the visible paint. BTW, some people object to the Nissan emblem and replacing it with the Z side emblem or an aftermarket one. You could probably get this for free if you are so inclined.

metal must be exposed in order to rust, could we get a picture of the area in question?

Im not gonna lie, your story sounds a bit odd, the area would have been covered in primer as well, which has no problems, only the outer paint is chipping, and only if something hits it, which would be rough on the back of the car. if it is coming from under the emblem thats a different story, that has nothing to do with the paint. the sealant just didnt hold, it happens.

I just remember one person who thought the plastic on the kick plates was his clear coat peeling away.

I will plan on taking pics tomorrow and posting them here.

I am scheduled for Nissan to put on a new chin from the aerodynamic package because it was scraped up before I got it and scraped below the rear drivers side mud guard. The day I picked it up, the salesman went to get gas and backed over a curb. Good thing my mother was with him, because when they got back she told me and they said they will fix it. Anyway that is suppose to be Tuesday.

I remember someone else complaining of rust near the edge of their hatch a while back also.

Default The pics are in

Not good quality, I know. I will have to use my parents' camera.
Camera couldn't focus that close to well.

Rust is at top or emblem.

Anybody know where to get a replacerment emblem that is a 'Z'? I don't have rust, just don't really like the Nissan badge. Thanks.

Default back from dealer

Ok, my car is back. They said the spots above the emblem was glue. Nonetheless, it is fixed. Problem solved.

Glue huh??
I just noticed I have 'rust' or 'glue !" on the paint near the "350Z" badge on mine. Looks more like rust than glue. Maybe it's rusty glue........

I thought it was funny that the "rust" spots were above the emblem! Glue makes more sense and is a lot better. Glad to here it wasn't rust.
