Yes, 30 seconds to 1 minute if it doesn't stall. If it does stall, restart and let it idle for 2-3 minutes or until the indicator on the gauge moves to the beginning of the range. I would still be careful about driving past 3000 revs because, in weather that cold fuel lines can freeze if theres some moisture in the line, ie. water, and you just have to go with what your car will tolerate. It will still warm up faster if you're moving, in my experience.

One exception is high wind chill factors if you're going against a headwind. In below zero wind chill, I see cars stalled by the side of the road often. We discussed it last year, its in the archives, but fuel line freezeup is a hit or miss deal. I just will not go faster than about 50mph until the car is fully warm under adverse conditions like you describe. It seems that higher speeds tend to put you at the side of the road if you are still warming up. I hope this is helpful.

I live in Hawaii so the weather doesn't get very cold here. Warm up doesn't take all that long for me. I'll usually sit in my car for about three min. Absolutely mandetory to me. When i start my car up in the morning, the RPM usally settles at about 1500 RPM's. After about three minutes, it'll settle at 1000K, which is just right for me. Actully, If i start up my Z after it's been sitting for more than eight hours, I'll go through my morning routine. I whole heartedly believe in warming up my car and feel that the three to four minutes used to warm up my Z is totally worth it. Just my oppinion.

why warm up at all if the manual says to just start going as soon as you turn on the car...

Actually the manual says to allow the engine to warm-up for at least 30 seconds.

For the '03 manual, on page 5-8 "Starting and Driving", section 4:

"4. Warm-up

Allow the engine to idle at least 30 seconds after starting. Drive at moderate speeds for a short distance first, especially in cold weather."
