Default annoyin trunk

I have just realized that there is no trunk pop from the inside of the car. The only way to pop the trunk is either from the back of the car or from the key, but when the ignition is on, the key will not pop the trunk open and i have to manually get out of the car and open the trunk from the back and that is really annoying when i have to always do this because of security checks at work...does anyone know how to get rid of this problem or if theres something that i dont know about that CAN open my trunk from the inside of the car while the engine is still on???

If the Z is anything like other late model Nissans, you should be able to have the dealer reconfigure some settings to allow the key fob to work while the car is running. I know for a fact there are about 30 different settings/options that can be configured by the dealer on the Maxima and Altima.

That's not true. Read your manual. There is a release under the rear strut tower.

i don't think that is intended for daily use, and not exactly accessible...

I would agree but there is one in the car and can be used. I think many people may not know about it. If getting out is that big of a hassle then it may be a solution.

Unlock your doors and tell the security officer to press the button at the top of the license plate cut-out.

An after market alarm with trunk pop will allow the hatch to be opened with the car on.

I took a look through the service manual, and didnt see anything to allow the trunk to be popped with the car on. maybe you could fool the cut the input that tells the computer when the car is on, shouldnt really affect anything else.... not that I noticed anyway.

there are lots of different things you can change with the write hardware, but popping the trunk with the car open was not one.

hevnlyxdmx,

why is this an issue anyway? Why would you try to open you trunk if you're not getting out of the car? just curious

he said, security needs to look in his trunk on his way into work. so hes just driving through a checkpoint, and now they either have to pop it themselves, or he has to turn his car off and pop it.

i did check the owners guide, and the only release for the trunk is the manual one, but i think that its only for emergency situations or a rare release. i havent called nissan, but i think my only option is to reprogram the keylock so that it will enable the trunk release while the car is on. and yes its a hassle having to come out of the car to release the trunk everyday, one of the security offers what pushing the back so hard that he popped out my licence plate light and was hanging down, that got me soo ticked off...

When inside the car, turn off engine & hit the truck release on the remote.

Seriously it is kind of annoying and has almost gotten me in trouble a couple of times.

Going though security at work and recently at airports isn't fun. Work is better because they understand what I have to do now, but entering an airport I was pulled from my vehicle after I shut off the engine to pop the trunk. They asked me to pop the trunk, and then when I shut off the car instead they got parinoid.

Also, typically security people do not want to pop the trunk for you as they want to keep their initial distance and are trying to watch you.

It isn't the worst thing in the world, but I can sympathize and personally don't like the fact that there is no easy way to pop the trunk while seated, belted in, and with the car running.

This is probably one of the most anoying things about this car I have noticed. I have only had the car for about 500 miles and until I noticed there was a button on the outside of the car I was about to send Nissan a nasty letter. I still think there should be a trunk release inside the car. The manual trunk release is a joke and almost slices my fingers when I use it. I hope I can get a aftermarket alarm to fix this problem.

I was really surprised to find that there was no reasonalble inside hatch release. Every car I have owned for the last 25 years had one! Perhaps if we pressure Nissan enough they will change the programing to allow the key fob remote to work with the engine running. I don't have to go through security at work but our local airport makes you go through a check point before entering the parking garages. They do get all paranoid if you shut off the engine or try to get out of the car.

Nissan really cut a lot of corners on the interior of this car, the (lack of) glove box, cigarette lighter and hatch release are the most annoying but I keep thinking up more as I type! No lumbar support adjustment, poor stereo, parking brake on the wrong side of the console, etc. Oh well, at least it's a blast to drive!
