Default Clutch Sticks - Major Safety Issue

This happened to me yesterday! my roadster's clutch stuck at 4600 rpm between 1st and 2nd, would not release until i pumped it like old time brakes, it continued to burn for 30 seconds until it came loose. Nice Scary smell to go with it. This is not hard driving i'm talking about. I only have 1600 miles on this car & My dealer is interested in ANYone else who has experienced a sticking/stuck clutch, including what dealer you took it to for inspection and/or repair. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE as you are without power and helpless while clutch is stuck. Many different threads here and personal blogs on www list same experiences, just not as the focus. Please send personal message with your dealer name, much appreciated. Thanks

Well, recently my friend and I shortened my clutch in my Z, and on cold days it was sticking. In other words, when I got in the car in the mornings, I pushed the clutch in and tried to pull it out of first (I park in first gear), and I couldn't get it out of first, so finally I pulled it out of first thinking it might just be a little stuck, so then I tried to get it into reverse, it wouldn't let me. So I sat there in the parking lot and pumped the clutch until I "warmed up" a little and then it worked fine. Since then we have adjusted the clutch in my car again and pulled it out a little more. So far no more sticking clutch. Fingers crossed!

i had the same thing happen to me on my 06 around 1500-2000miles.

i was getting on the freeway went to shift from 2nd to 3rd and the clutch stuck to the floor. so since the clutch was stuck i took the opportunity to slip it into 4th and let off the gas..... after 20 seconds the clutch popped back out. bad smell.

ive heard this happening to a lot of peeps, what they said was if u race the clutch while the engine is still not fully warmed up, itll do that.

wow, that scary place to lose power... Do you think that applied to you, was your engine cold? did you ever take it into to your dealer or have it looked at?

Quit burning your clutch and/or engine braking too much to boil the fluid in the lines. This is caused by your driving style and also maintenance (change your fluids).

I'm sure i'm not alone in those this has happened to, in saying this is NOT driving style. I've driven a stick for 30 years, celicas, preludes, maxima's, and I may have gone through a few clutches in my days, but never, i repeat never has a clutch stuck. I know the difference between hard driving, and driving to work in the morning. And who would be expected to completely change the fluid at 1500 miles? That's crazy talk. I'm glad this has never happened to you, but just so, don't comment on things you haven't experienced. It doesn't help track a safety issue. If someone pulls out into traffic with the expectation of matching traffic speed, and then the clutch sticks so they can't get out of the way of the truck headed their way, that would be a tragedy and that could be any of us.

I didn't pay any attention to your mileage, but it definitely sounds like you boiled the fluid or have air in the lines. I know because the exact same thing has happened to me while driving in the mountains and has also happened on hard launches when I slipped the clutch too heavily. You should take it to the dealership and have them evac the fluid and cylenders and replace the fluids. Either that, or somehow convice them that you have a lemon and have them swap it out.
