Paint Chipping on Front
I've still got less than 2000 miles on my redline track 350z. At about 1000 miles I saw a few paint chips on the front and now they are doubled with about half a dozen paint chips now.
My neighbor has a red mustang and she travels the same roads as I do on a daily basis. There are no paint chips whatsoever on her car front and she has over 50,000 on her car...
I absolutely do not want a bra, it's not something I've ever been interested in.
Is this a defective paint job? Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Can you tell me about the 3M maintenance?
But, we shouldn't have to treat our vehicle, this is still Nissan's responsibility to correct this if this is a manufacturer's defect. Has anyone talked to Nissan about this issue?

The maintenance is basically just like paint. You can wash it, wax over it, etc. I've noticed it is a bit less noticable on the car after 3 coats of Zaino. Less orange peelish up close. 10 feet back, and you pretty much can't tell it is there.
I agree we shouldn't have had to do anything. I don't know for a fact that Nissan paint is softer than others, but my other GM cars don't chip as easily as people have talked about the Z doing.

I have had my silver Z for three months, the first chip I noticed was below the gas tank...I suspect the dealer had something to do w/ it. Since then I have found several in the front of the auto. I keep a good distance from other vehicles for this very reason. I am not sure if it is the quality of the paint or what. I guess I should look into a clear 3m bra I have been reading about. Do you have any idea where I may look to purchase one?
thanks
thanks
Okay, it's looking like 100% of anyone that hasn't had a bra or the 3M treatment is getting chips. So, obviously the paint job is bad.
So, has anyone taken this up with Nissan? I am about to open a case, I believe, I just want some input.

2200 miles and I just noticed one chip. Not only that, but the first weekend I had my Redline and washed it, I noticed spider web scratches all over it. The dealer re-detailed it, giving it a new coat of wax. Now I have shinny spider webs. I am waiting on my Zaino order to come in to help with the scratches, but don't want to do the Zaino over the chip in the hood. Making and appointment with the dealer today. Anyone have recomendations for me?
I've started my case on these paint chips and my grease-streaked windows. I got my case number. The 350z specialist assigned told me yesterday that she would be calling the dealership.
Anyone else starting a paint chip case? If anyone has gone through this issue, please post Nissan's resolution to your paint chipping.
Thanks!

Zeroday, why did you repaint at 30miles? How much was it?

RE: Zeroday: I'm at 1200 miles, and no paint chips.
I did however have the front bumper repainted professionally with 30 miles on the car so I cheated.

I've got a Brickyard touring. In the first week I had a very noticeable chip in the middle of the hood. The front bumper obviously is getting the brunt of it due to mostly freeway driving. I just noticed this week that I have two new chips; one on the driver door in front of the handle, and a new one just yesterday on the drivers side rear quarter panel. Both of which are noticeable.
IS this due to poor paint? Has anyone gotten Nissan to take responsibilityat this point? Should I be reporting this to them, and if so, what is the best process for doing so? Any help would be great! At first I thought it was normal wear and tear, but the more that appear, and the more I read in to the forums, the more I see I'm not alone. I've had cars (Honda, Lexus, etc. even lowered with larger wheels/tires) and utility vehicles that I have driven 30k miles and up and not had nearly as many chips. With only 6500 miles on a car, the paint should not be chipping so bad.

Here you go:
You should definitely report it, make you receive a case number
If I were you, I'd report it twice, one from web and on phone.
