2005 Z Engine knocking
Engine has a knocking sound at idle and knock increases with RPM. Took it to dealer today and they told me to bring it in the morning and leave it. I bought the car new (it was a "demo" driven by the owner of the dealership. It had 3,700 miles on it and it knocked when I bought it. I now have 6,900 miles and I thought it was the fuel injectors, but a mechanic friend told me to have Nissan look at it. Any thoughts?
Welcome!
What grade of gasoline do you use?
Have you added any gasoline to the car, since you've owned it?
How long has the car been this way?
Why would you buy a car from a new car dealer that had a knocking sound?

Always used 93 Octane. I didn't realize the car was knocking until about a week after the purchase. Like I had mentioned, I thought it was the fuel injectors, I guess I'll find out tommorow when Nissan looks at it. I've had the car for a year and a half and I've only put 3000 miles on it.......
either way you should be under warrenty and shouldnt have to pay for anything. CONGRATS on the new car! Biggest advise is search on this thread before posting! you will save yourself from alot of flaming.
But keep us informed on what they say. I would say detenation also.

I don't think that a bearing would be going with only 7000 miles. I know that some of the chevy trucks were being overborred at the factory causing piston slap in new vehicles. But this is different alltogether. Hard to say w/o being with the car.

You may want to check your oil level.
I seem to have had a similar problem. At first I thought it might be an engine warm up thing. Then I noticed when driving that the oil pressure was extremly low. I know the oil pressure technically has nothing to do with the oil level, but.....if the oil level is too low, you will always have low pressure because there physically is not enough oil to push through the closed system.
My car only has 8000 miles on it, and I have only had regular (no synthetic) oil in the car. When I checked, I was about 2 qts down!!!! As soon as I added oil, waalaa, no more knocking!
There is another thread in this forum about the 350 burning oil. I am gonna take my car to the dealer to get an oil consumption test performed. Oh, BTW, the only mod to my car (35th anniv) is the motordyne iso thermal plenum spacer upgrade and a K&N slip in, which should have nothing to do with the oil!

Never a problem with oil consumption, had the car at the dealer today, they all heard it and told me they don't know what it is..... They want me to drive it and see if it gets worse before they can diagnose the problem. I drove away, but their answer just isn't good enough. Called them back and told them that it just isn't right for me to be driving a $38,000 car with 6900 total miles on it with a knocking sound.... They agreed and they told me to bring it back and they will make some phone calls, we'll see. BTW, had the oil changed yesterday, my car has never been low, also a 35th Anniversary.
Do you hear this knock from the top of the engine with the hood up, or at the driver's or passanger's side near the front wheel? I hear a ticking sound (once per revolution) at the driver's side front wheel, but not from on top the hood. Don't know if this an exhaust leak, or if it is natural.
You can hear the knocking sound from all the locations you mentioned....Nissan told me it is a "noisy" Fuel Damper Assembly and there is a TSB out for this issue. I located the TSB at www.nissanhelp.com. Part is on order. We'll see....
I had an engine knocking problem... only when I hit about 3k rpms and accelerating slowly (maybe I just couldn't tell when I floored it cause the engine was too loud? I dunno). It would just be this annoying clicking noise and like you said you had, it would get worse with acceleration, the higher my RPMs were the worse it was. You have the revup engine, that's what's in the 35th anniversary, right? My car is in the shop now and is getting the engine replaced as we speak (and they have me in a rented chevy aveo that makes me want to shoot myself). I have an '06 base but I'm pretty sure we both have the rev up engines. My problem was in the drivetrain I think and it's all getting replaced under warranty, so have them check it out. Thanks
