Default "Service Engine Soon" Light.........

FYI........

Because I live in the snowy northeast, I stored my new Z from Christmas until this past week, which included disconnecting the battery, which I have done with all my cars for years.

I re-connected the battery and took a drive this past week and within 2 miles the "Service Engine Soon" light pops on. The car is running normally, the gas cap is tight and several re-starts do not clear the light. I take it to my dealer today and I learn that:

- The 350Z is run by several computers.
- The computers are hard-programmed.
- A power interruption of a few days (ie: disconnecting the battery for storage) will not affect the programming but WILL cause the computer to report a significant power interruption, thus the light.
- Only the dealer can re-set the light after checking all operation codes for normal.

SO, I guess I will have to leave the battery connected for winter storage or plan a regular trip to the dealer each spring. Seems silly that Nissan programming can't detect a power connection!

FWIW!
