ummmm....

describe the sound...

if its a light clunking sound it is NORMAL sound from the transmission / clutch / flywheel... the flywheel in the 350z is a dual mass unit that absorbs most of the sound... when you put in single piece flywheels you hear a clunking / chatter sound...

if anything it may be the release bearing but you wont hear that unless you press in the clutch pedal...

and if your sound goes away when pressing your clutch pedal in then it is the normal flywheel sounds...

If your pilot bushing is bad, you have tranny problems. Likely a throw out bearing, since they sometimes make noise. If your car is under warranty and the noise is bad enough, let them fix it.

The pilot bushing is what the nose of the input shaft slides into, generally pressed into the end of the Crankshaft. They can be sintered bronze or a roller bearing. Its is not part of the tranny. It has to be pretty trashed to make a noise---I mean REALLY trashed
I many times dont replace them ---just lube them

[well the sound only happens when the car has been sitting for more than 7 hours or when engine is cold. and it happens between 40-50mph only. test drove with a tech from foothill nissan because they couldnt hear it on their own. tech said maybe pilot bushing but, needs me to take it back so they can put it up and hear where noise is coming from. jason as far as the noise it sounds like a whistle/ whinning noise.

Give another oil change cycle or two before worrying about oil consumption, keep an eye on it and keep a written record of the progress.
As far as the pilot bushing, I just cant place the Zs design, but seem to think it is a sintered bronze, Its something I always chk when I drop a tranny, but seldomly address unless its visually bad or high milage, There is just not much stress on it unless there is a bad front Brg. in the trans causing erratic alignment. Point is , if u got 6000 miles and a bad pilot, something caused that pilot to go bad, its not the pilots fault.
Keep in mind thay trannys havent changed really in the last 60 yrs, Its only a gear box. Ask around for an old school hi-performance box builder and ask his opinion if ur curious and want to find out facts rather than uneducated quesses from Nissan.

BTW---If its a sintered bronze, It shouldnt be lubed as a rule
