Default Car Shuts down in neutral

I'm almost at 40K, done all regular oil changes, flushed coolant, flushed tranny and diffs. And lately my car has been idling unsteady will parked in neutral. When I'm in gear crusing it would stutter making the ride uncomfortable. One time when stopping without downshifting, I popped it in neutral and stopped and when I went to go, the engine was shut down. The radio was still on and didn't turn off when the engine shut itself down. I didn't even notice that the engine was off until the light turned green for me to go. I also have a pop charger installed and heard that this happen to some other guys. Today instead of downshifting to stop I popped it in the neutral and when coming to a complete stop the idle dropped almost to zero, and came back.

Is there anyone out their that might have any leads to this problem?

Do you have Pop Charger? If so, Pop charger has a problem stalling when the car in in neutral cruising on highway speeds.

this isn't the famous problem i have had with my popcharger. Thats stalling is above 79-82 mph when in neutral because there is not enough air going into the intake without the engine actively sucking it in. You have some other type of problem..possibly MAF related. Try all the reset procedures and check the piping on the intake

yeah i would check to make sure the filter is clean first and foremost... when was the last time you cleaned it? Also make sure all the connections are still good. Rule out the simple things first. It could be something as stupid as bad gas. How long have you had the problem?

+1. I've had that happen to me with cheap "mom & pop" store gas.

I was washing the car on Sunday and when I went to reset the ECU, I found the filter laying off on the car. The intake tube was completely exposed.... I can't remember the last time I checked the engine, but the filter must have been off for more than two weeks. The car runs great now after I put the filter back on, but I'm afraid that something got in. I was going to clean out pipe, but I'm more woried about the manifold and block.

Any suggestions??????

Exactly as I suspected! Thanks for giving me some credit.

BTW you can reset your ECU without having to mess around under the hood.

As far as something getting into your engine... I guess you will know for sure if you start burning oil or have a catastrophic engine failure... from now on... make sure your aftermarket intake is attached securely. Not much you can really do about it now.... so there is no point in worrying about it unless you're experiencing problems.

How can you reset the ECU without disconnecting the positive?
I'll definately give you credit for that answer, unless someone else beats you to it... :}

I think I'd rather mess around with under the hood than trying that cheat code. Thanks, I'll try it one day, but for now unhooking the positive for 15+ minutes and letting it idle for 15+ mins works fine.
