After about 10,000 miles on my 2006 Z, there's this clicking noise that wouldn't go away and it's starting to bother me more and more.
The noise comes from the rear passenger side. The click sounds just like a rock hitting the inside of the rear wheel fender. Or some plastic hitting on metal on the inside of the car.
It occurs sometimes when the road gets bumpy.
I took everything, including the spare tire, out of the trunk and made sure everything tied down. But still the noise would not go away.
Any suggestions on where the noise can potentially come from is appreicated.

Q: I hear a clicking sound sometimes. What is that? Sounds like it's coming from the rear of the car?
A: Beware of a slight metallic clicking sound coming from the rear of the car. It is due to the rear axle not being properly lubricated. If your car has this problem, you will usually hear this clicking sound when (1) in an enclosed space or driving near a hard wall, (2) driving without radio and with the window down (try turning off A/C if you still aren't sure), and (3) starting to move from a halt. The clicking sound is more pronounced while turning, or so it seems.
If you have the clicking, your car is due for a "Technical Service Bulletin" or "TSB" repair for rear axle clicking, which is covered under warranty. Take it to a dealer, and don't leave until they agree to fix it.

Anyone got a picture of exactly were on the rear axle is the noise coming from? Is it easy for the dealer to fix? I don't want them to be taking my Z apart and have more problems afterwards.

Here is an idea...Do you have aftermarket rims? I had metal valve stems and one of the bolts inside the rim had came loose. It would click inside the rim and eventually go away when the wheel would speed up.
I had an 03 pre-order that had the rear axle click and now I have an 06 that has it. You would think after 3 years they would have taken care of this. I also get a clicking/ticking noise from the rear if the VDC or traction control(slip light) occurs. Never had that on the 03 when I lost traction. I don't think it's right. Throw in MAJOR oil consumption and you have a real nice piece of crap for $36k. My bad for not keeping the 03.

But definitely have the axle clicking thing checked out too.
