when I manually shift in my 5at from 2nd to 3rd there is a loud single thump noise while it is changing gears..why is this?

is it like a clunk. its normal on manuals.

 

no its loud and very abnormal sounding...it doesnt do it in any other gear

 

He has a 5AT.

 

It's normal on the 5AT.

 

My Z does the same, it's a loud *** thump from 2nd to 3rd. It's annoying and sounds like the tranny might get damaged when I'm flooring it.

 

My 03' touring does the same kind of 'quick grind' from 2nd to 3rd... and only then... and usually only when it's cold... I wish that **** would stop.

 

I get it too.

Our trannies are very loud.

Definately normal. You can hear every gear click in this car, but that was is definately the loudest. Its quite compared to my friends GTO. I was behind him once and we were driving rather spirited, I could hear him shifting in my car (the tranny clicking/thumping). So be glad our car isn't the loudest.
