Question Postioning a radar detector

Since the outlet for the power cord is so poorly placed I am considering hard wiring the detector into the dome line circut. I could position the unit on top of the rearview mirror. My concern is how would the "tinting" located around that area of the windshield effect the detector? Anyone have experience with the wiring and/or position for a detector?

Thanks

Default WINDOW TINTING

I had the upper part of the windshield tinted, the tech. told me that with the metal in the window film would block my radar, so I had to cut out a space next to the rear view mirror to place the radar. things worked out well, no problem at all.

Default About the tinting........

I have mounted the detector above the mirror on my last two cars. They both had after market tinting at the top of the glass (5%) and I had no problems. I just got my Z tinted yesterday and plan to mount the detector in the same place again.

Default Tinting

Any window tint WILL decrease your laser sensitivity if you have a laser detector. If you see less light through it so will the detector.

As for radar, it depends on what the tint is made out of. Any metalic tint would interfere with radar detection for sure. Not sure about grey tints.

I put mine just below the "dots" around the mirror. The suction cup on the right is stuck to the dots with a drop of crazy glue and the left one is just stuck to the glass. Works great and really not that visible. The red line drawn on the pic is the path I used to run the wires down to the fusebox. I used the cig. lighter fuse so it goes on and off with the key in the ignition.

I think that is how I will mount my V1 when I get my Z.

Thanks
