Default Nissan Dealership Trying to Get Me?

I took my 2003 Z in for rear brake work and they're telling me I need transmission service for $120 and a new clutch for $1900...

What the hell?

Depending on miles and usage, they may be right! If you do swap out your tranny fluid, be sure to go with something like the Redline MTL/MT90 mix. It can and does make a difference over the OEM lubricant.

They say Z's generally need new clutches like every 50k - 60k miles..... Brakes like every 40k - 50k miles... If some kid was practicing his launch technique with the car before you bought it, chances are, you may need a new clutch.

Whenever you take your car to the dealership, there's big potential for some expensive repairs. You shouldn't dismiss their recommendations, but either get a second opinion or determine through alternate means that the work they recommend is really needed. Tranny service (the kind for transmissions, not the other kind...) is probably interval-based, and wouldn't hurt extend its life. As for the clutch, there are tests you can do to determine slippage.

I'm not experiencing any slippage on the clutch, so I'm not going to have it replaced just yet... thanks for the input though. $1900 does seem ridiculous though.
