the weird knocking/rattle noise that is coming from the rear.
the one that no one including dealers know what it?

That black thing in the hatch under the panels.

i know everyone seems to have there own solution, but it seems to never work for anyone else...

so this is my solution, and i hope it will help someone else.

under the rear of the car, there is a whole heap of plastic panels..
the other day i was playing around, banging everything underneath the car...
all of the black panels were ****FULL**** of rocks.
i honistly had at least 30 small rocks in total....

all i did was bang them out, shake the plastic/hit it
and they all eventually fell out....

sounds like a long shot. but rocks rattling around underneath the car is going to make some sort of noise..

let me know if anyone does this and how many stones and rocks and crap you actually end up finding....

 

back in 2003, a rock the size of a nickel was found under a plastic rear panel after a nissan tech test drove my Z on a dirt road.

 

I get a rattling noise from the rear also, but it only happens when my base is on. Im sure the rear should not rattle like that when the car is brand new. Also, the base is not even that high....anyone else know what it is? Or is it the same thing your talking about? Sorry if it seems like im jacking you thread, just something I was wondering.

 

Yeap, been there done that. Lots of very small stones in the control arms, makes a little bit of noise, will also marginally upset the handling. Something was lost in translation from the 300zx I think. This is just with normal tarmac driving, my zed does not see gravel roads at all. I'd say these would have been picked up traveling over areas of unavoidable roadworks.

 

Can you give us more description, ie where the noise sounds like it's coming from??

Rear driver side. Sounds like the hatch is rattling, not sure.

 

There are quite a number of threads about that hatch rattle on the forum, it's not a major. Take it your Z is new, take it back it should be very easy for the dealer to sort out.
