Inside the 14208 9E000 oil filter...
Since I've been reading up on various aftermarket filters, I decided to see what is inside the larger of the two factory oil filters for the 350Z. The bottom came off easily and cleanly with a kitchen can opener. The bypass valve is a spring-loaded diaphram at the top of the filter. Those who know more about filter construction -- please feel free to comment.

mwaller,
This is a very cool post. I thank you for sacrificing your Nissan oil filter for the greater good.
Perhaps we should have a canonical oil filter thread somewhere...

Glad you appreciate it. Did you see my other post comparing this filter to the other Nissan filter for the Z (in the general forum)? If not, I suggest you take a look... not only is the other one woefully small, it's also VERY cheaply constructed. If you want to use OEM filters, stick with the larger of the two (pictured above).
