Default Lumpy idle without AC on

I have a 04 Enth. that I purchased new with 12 miles on it. Starting at about 6000 miles, the car developed an idle lump. You can feel it from the pedals to the seat and to your butt. You can see the tach jumping up and down as it does it. I brought the car back to Nissan 12 times to try to get them to fix it, but none of them said they can do anything because it is not out of spec and it is not throwing check engine light. I have been driving the piece of crap like this for 2.5 years. Does anyone know the answer to this or do people just drive theirs like a piece of crap and not care? It is driving me nuts!!!

Well, i wouldnt justify a rough idle as making your car a POS, but

Yes, most people who install aftermarket intakes awaken this rough idle issue. I belive it is a 350Z flaw that they dont know how to fix or how it occured. There have been a couple different fixes for it, but still debatable if they actually work.

-Cleaning your MAF sensor. Pull it out of your intake tube and use compressed air, or a eletronic contact cleaner. Also, re-tighten your clamps on the intake and make sure everything is snug.

-Installing a ground kit. Improving the engines ground is rumored to help the rough idle, but i havent fallen for the rumor yet, so i havent attempted it. Maybe i should?

Anyways, rough idle is normal, you can try the above references for free or fairly cheap. Might be worth a shot, good luck!

I had that happen on my 2004 base model. When my AC is on the idle is perfect. But, when the AC is off the idle moves up and down. My tuner used a consult II device to correct the idle. Normally the dealer has this device also but, might charge you $60-$80 for them to correct it. It is not a guarrantee that, the device will correct your problem.

After 1 month my idle problem came back. I'm going to take it back to my tuner when I get a chance to see if he can fix the problem.

I have brought it back to the dealer 12 times, they cant fix it. I offered to pay them money to adjust hte idle, this guy wouldn't touch it.

I installed a ground kit, doesnt make a difference.

I will remove the MAF sensor to clean it, but i remove the intake tube last time. It was clean as hell.

I sprayed carb cleaner, no vacuum leak neither.

I love the car and it runs fine, but little problem like this drives me completely nuts. Nissan's service is also a joke, so I can tell you this will be my last Nissan. Rough idle is only normal if the car is busted, it shouldn't have it. Didn't the morons rate this motor as the smoothest V6 ever? I call that BS

It is not normal, there is a difference between having a problem or ignoring a problem. No offense, but you sound like a Nissan dealer. "It's a sports car, they all do that"

I dunno, maybe yours is worse than mine, but I don't really see what its hurting. Its not like the car is stalling or even coming close...

New coils and new iridium spark plugs - that’s what I would try to do. Also throttle body gets quite nasty. And I’m sure that you use good gas as well as a can of bg44k every 10K.

my car is an 03 and has been doing this for a long time. I just don't bother taking it to the dealership anymore to fix because it hasn't affected anything and eventually you'll stop noticing it. Besides that they won't fix it anyways and they will tell you that it's supposed to be that way.

I've tried a couple of things to get the idle to be steady but, nothing has worked. I have been told that the 2004, 2004.5 350Z's can not have their idle's raised. Wonder if this is true. Anyways, I have given up finding a solution to the idle problem. I have listed the things I have done to the car below. If anyone finds a solution PM me.

- Consult II Device. (Dealer has this device)
- Tune
- Air Bypass tube.
