Default 06 z stuck in third gear

driving home today on the highway in traffic, road cleared and I accellerated tried to shift into 4th gear and could not move the shifter. Feels stuck, I had to drive to the dealer in 3rd gear. car is practically still new, has 17k miles on it. WTF@@@!!!

dealer mechanics are off by the time I got there so they are supposed to call me in the morning. sugesstions for handling this issue, expectations?? and if anyone would care to guess what could have caused this? any one have similar issues?

thanks.

Maybe the throw-out bearing. I know that was the cause of my friends Evo getting stuck in 3rd.

update: car is still at the dealer Bob/Bell Chev/ NIssan at 7900 eastern Ave, baltimore, MD 21224

the service writer name is Art Christenson , my car has been there since Friday 6/22 at around 5pm. they couldnt look at it till monday i was told, but i just found out today after talking with the service writer that his "transmission guy" will not be in until this "wed" or "thursday"

I dont advise going to this dealer for any nissan realated tranny problems, looks like they have only 1 tech..

at this point i dont see how it would benefit me to change dealerships for the repair, since i would probably not see the car serviced any earlier if i moved it now.

so, as far as what the problem is there is no update right now. I have just had an overall bad week . home depot, sprint,BGE and now nissan - I have recieved the most crappy POS service from all of these companies in a single week. i thinked i have been vexed.

called me to say my car is done and that i should come pick it up. says technician couldnt reproduce the problem, this is bull. the service writer himself said he verified the car was stuck in gear. but because no one was there to look at it it sat for 3 days before being looked at. there is no way to tell if the mechanic forced it out of gear or not. now that they cant reproduce the issue they are saying they cant do anything about it.

i called NNA and opened a complaint, ill keep you posted.

after speaking with the general manager , who advised me he personally spoke with the technician. the car was still stuck in 3rd gear when he looked at it. he then "double clutched it" and it was no longer stuck. after a test drive they could find no problems.

so i asked him, why was it stuck in the first place? to which he responded "must have been a glitch, just drive it and if it happens again let us know and well look at it further"

so, waiting on NNA rep to call me still. you would think that the mechanic would have put it up on a lift a examined the problem while it was still stuck. now they are telling me, well sorry cant reproduce the issue. so there is no warranty work to be done.

I told the gerneral manager i would call nissan and get them to authorize a transmission inspection would he have a problem doing the work then? he said "I wouldnt advise that if I was you, better just to leave it alone" WTF!!

I know it's frustrating, I have been trough a few of the "cant reproduce it" problems but think at it for minute:

1- The tech got in the car, tried to see what was wrong and managed to get it out of third gear. He has not done anything wrong yet. If it did not come out of gear, sure he would have to remove/open the trans.
2- They drove it and now it's fine. It's very hard for them to justify opening up the trans and he's right, you don't want that.

Sure, you'll be worried about gettin it stuck in third for the next month or so. If it happens again bring it back. Another dealer won't look at it since it's working fine.
