Paint Problems
I have a 2k3 Brickyard with less than 900 miles with paint chips on hood and left qtr panel.
What i noticed in the brickyard paint were small dimples none you could feel but out of direct sunlite very noticable.
Took it to the dealer they gave me the run around but called the nissan rep he was out to look at it in about 3 days took pic's.
Two days later got call they are going to repaint my car .
My only issue is I'm concerend about having nissan paint my car again.
Anyone with similar exp. pls post.
Will inform what i decide.

Re-painting Really?
I had a long debate with a rep at NNA. They claim that Nissan will not re-paint or fix paint due to "envronmental conditions". These conditions include stones etc. They claimed if they sent a rep out to see my 100's of chips, and if it was due to stones, they would not fix. I tried to explain that I have other cars 10+ years old that have about 5 chips!!!!
Do you know which NNA rep you talked to?

The paint companies color analyze sample cars and come up with their own mixes to match the factory colors. Then they give these formulas to the body shops that use their brand of paint. The thing is, the factory paint varies a bit over time and from factory to factory so the paint companies actually sample multiple cars of the same factory color code at differnt times and come up with alternate mixes for the same color. The paint shop then tries to match samples of the alternate mixes to your particular car. It is a very pot luck process that is complicated with three step paints (base/tint/clear) like Daytona Blue and Lemans Sunset. When I had my Daytona Blue's Nismo kit painted I met with 2 body shop owners and saw the color cards of alternate mixes and had it all explained to me. I was more than a little surprised.
The upshot is that, Nissan will not sell you the paint. You are stuck with body shops trying to match it from the paint line they sell based on the alternate formulas provided by each paint company. And every paint line ( Spies Hecker, DuPont, Sherwin Williams, etc) is a bit different in terms of how many alternate mixes they have come up ith for any given color.
This is one of those things that should be simple, but actually isn't.

holy thread revival!!!!. if you took the time to read above, Nissan does not make its own paint. any reputable place that does PPG can take your VIN number and mix a batch tailored specifically to your car
