Thumbs down Cold start or rough idle problems?? Read!

Hey I have had my z for about 4 months now and LOVE it. I will tell you all what happened to me yesterday. First of all I have had some cold start problems over the past few weeks. She starts but runs really rough, check eng light comes on but once she warms up it has been ok.

For the last week the idle has been a little rough even when she is warm. I called the dealer and made an appointment to have it checked out. No biggie...Well yesterday I get a really rough idle when I start her for the first time. I let her warm up and off we go. Everything seems lovely. I make a spirited 2nd gear corner take her to 6500rpm nice shift to 3rd and as soon as I put the hammer down she falls on her face! I push the clutch and give the throttle a stab and she dies....WTF I am on the highway thinking this cant be happening.

I try to start her as we start to lose forward momentum....nothing, I put her back into second and let the clutch out.....nothing. I end up full stop on a highway not much fun. I turn the ignition off wait a couple of seconds and try to fire again. This time she starts but idles REALLY rough. I touch the accelerator and she dies. I of course have my flashers on but every dumb @$$ and his brother is honking at me (like I chose to stop on the highway....right). I was on a bit of a hill so I waited until the traffic dies and roll her backwards off the road. The rollback took her to the local service department yesterday afternoon. I guess I will let you all know how this turns out.

Has anyone else had electronic problems with their z? It acts like the ECU, or AFM or something. I am sure it is some type of electronic problem maybe my cold start sensor just decided I did not need to be driving!

Oh well other than that I love this car....BUT I told her while we were waiting for the tow truck” One more stunt like that and off to the Honda dealer we go” Can you say S2000.....

Has your battery or ECM ever been disconnected?....if so, the ECM may need to be re-taught its accelerator positions, butterfly positions, etc. If you're going to the dealer, they should have no problem with this. The procedure is in the service manual.

Thumbs up Update

Air flow meter is the culprit. Dealer said it should be here in the next day or so. He claimed the Air filter let too much air through and ruined the AFM. Not sure I am buying the air filter excuse. I know the older Z's had problems with the AFM, perhaps the apple does not fall far from the tree.
