The A/C does not use coolant, it uses refrigerant, R-134A to be exact. If it lost it's refrigerant charge then adding new will do you no good, it will just blow out where the leak is. The most common culpret is the compressor shaft seal but it could be anywhere. If you really want it to work properly 1. find the leak and fix it first. 2. have the system evacuated and recharged, best done by someone who knows what he or she is doing.

a leaky a/c system is a pain and tricky to work on if you don't have any A/C training. It's better to take it to a shop who specialize in A/C work and get it repaired......don't ask me why.... been there and done that.

its easy but you just need to have the proper machine to evac and recharge. I evacuated my system three times for 10 hour each just to make sure everything was out then recharged to the number that is listed under the hood. I believe it was 1.3 ounce.

The why is this........experience. Not only is there so much special equip that is needed but also there is hands on experience that is needed to troubleshoot.

With A/C, as with many things, there are no good quick fixes. I have learned that, in most cases, it's best to bite the bullit and go through the whole system. I can do it so fast now that I waste time trying to find a leak, and if I do.....Is it the ONLY leak ??? Main, catasrophic areas for leaks are... Comp seal, Evaperator and Condensor, if they chk out with the use of a temperary, full charge and a leak detector, then its O-Ring time. NOT one but ALL.

BTW---as far as evaparator test .... Charge the system and leave over night, then in the morn leak detect your floor area in the car. Freon is heavier than air and will settle there. I also sometimes drill a hope in tne housing and lower the prob down into it.

Driers/accumulators HAVE to be replaced in spent systems, correct amounts of oil has to be added, pressure sensors have to be chked and dont get me started with Temp Control Systems.....And, does the expansion valve or oriface tube need replacing ?????
The Flush I use to clean the system is 70.00 a gallon alone !

BTW Superblack ----30 hours evac ???? Sure doesnt hurt, but I get busted on because I do it for an hour and a half and am told Im overkilling, But I will continue overkilling cuz moisture is an A/Cs worst enemy
