Question Where does your dipstick read inbetween oil changes?

As I've said in another thread, I'm trying to see if my engine is burning oil or not. I'm almost halfway through an oil-change interval and my dipstick reads just above the first rung (just inside the normal range, it seems). Is this a low reading? I don't want to just add any amount of oil without knowing the optimal level. People would tell me to change the oil myself and find out for myself, but my dealer gave me half a dozen oil changes for FREE and that's HARD to pass up. lol I certainly hope they put in the 5 quarts necessary...

If five quarts go in, it reads full. I'm not trying to scare you, but based on your comments in the other thread, your Z maybe consuming excessive oil. In my 350z, when the stick reads halfway between add and full, about 1/2 quart of oil takes it back to the full mark. My Z now has 5k miles and has had 3 oil changes. After each oil change the stick read full.

To be sure, check your reading after the dealer performs an oil change -- it should read full or close to it. Check the stick again after about 1000 miles. The manual says the 350Z takes 5 quarts oil with filter change, by the way.
