Rattle from tranny when car not in gear and clutch out
#63
Yes, I have the same noise as the video clip above and I've been complaining about it since I bought my car. I bought it used with 15k miles on it, its a 2003, I've had it for about 3 months now. So I'm not sure if the tranny has been replaced on my car. But it seriously makes the car sound like a piece of junk and if Nissan says thats normal, I'm dissapointed!! And there was a post earlier that said they could feel the vibration throughout first gear, I also can hear and feel it and I think its related to this issue. I'm going to take it to the dealer and see what they say. I know the original purchaser of the car drove it off the lot in 9/02.

I have a stock performance 2003 6sp and my Z has the same 'noisy' problems. I get rattles during any kind of acceleration in 1st gear, and some pretty embarracing clanks coming from the drivetrain during shifting....
does anyone know if upgrading to Nismo light flywheel, clutch disk and clutch cover solve the problem?
my dealer has been pretty evasive over the whole thing.....

Add me to the list. I've got an 04 6 speed, built in July 04. The noise is so obvious when parked in neutral. Then completely gone when I push the clutch pedal to the floor. Someday I'll complain to the dealer.

Just to update this, I took my car to 2 different dealerships and both said this noise is normal. Stupid noise when the clutch is out = normal, stupid noise when the car shuts off = normal, stupid noise when taking off from a stop = normal, notchy 2nd and 3rd = normal for a "race" car.
I wish I was deaf and this was my first MT car...ignorance is bliss. I guess the remedy is to turn up the radio and drive it like you stole it

how about automatic tranny?
does anyone have problem with this in automatic tranny?

Ditto, this is the response i got as well. I looked at the guy like he was crazy. They must all need hearing aids at the dealership.

I've got an 04 Roadster Built Sept 03.
My dealership said it was normal as well but they'd watch out for it on the next new cars that came in to see if they did it too.
I've got a buddy at work who also has a 305Z Roadster and his does not make the noise - I'm going to check it out today.
DO ANY OF YOU HAVE THE RPMs DROP by about 250 as well when you let the clutch out in Neutral?

ok.....so all the while i'm having the dealer look at this clanky issue, they also were doing the warranty toe-in adjustment (this was actually a reacall from nissan corporate for the toe-in adjustment).
PS for those who don't know about this, it is an inherent problem with the alignment, causing tread wear damage which is covered by Nissan.
See the attachment on this message to see what i got back when they replaced the tires. there are about four of these marks on each of the front rims.....i'm now fighting to have them replace the rims.........they deny any responsibility...
not sure if this is isolated but thought anyone who needs to take their Z in for the Toe in adjustment should be aware of this......

Back to the Tranny issue....I have the same stupid "Throw-out Bearing" rattle. I have had the Tranny replaced once due to the grinding in 3rd gear. They told me it was normal like most of the other people on here but I am also inclined to believe that it is not a "normal" sound....Has anyone called NNA about the issue? I think I am going to give them a call today and see what they have to say

Ranger5oh, what dealer do you plan to get your tranney replaced at? I am in Stl as well, and have the same noise. My production date is 01/04. Do you know if they have done many Z tranney replacements? Thanks.
