For all you guys with this rattling noise...my car has 60k miles on it.

I have zero grinds(other than when I screw up a shift).

I have also never had the tranny replaced.

I expect my tranny to go until the engine dies.

The dealer did not fix mine... which sucks... all they said is that they can't verify the problem... which is bull because I told them that to hear the problem clearly they have to warm up the car and drive it for 15 minutes... and when I got the car back I check the odometer and the car wasn't driven for even a mile... I'm really pissed... so I think I'm gonna try to get in touch with nissan of north america...

Most Z owners consider it normal. I have the same noise since my car was new, until the tranny gives than I'll take it in.

For those of you who had repairs done which fixed the sound - Has the noise come back?

Yes, after only a few weeks.

I just let it be, screw it.

Had Mine fixed, and 4K miles since with no noises. Can't argue with these results.

At first, I thought this was a "normal" nissan 6MT noise, but after test driving a 2005 6MT G35 sedan last weekend, I noticed that it was completely quiet and smooth (while both cold and hot). I too had the transmission replaced on my '04; approx 1 year ago. But, the rattling has been there since day one (on both transmissions).

Well, I'm going to take it in to ask for new bearings, or at least make sure this noise is recorded their maintenance logs. Common sense dictates that this will cause premature wear of any of the many transmission components.

I have an 05 and have the same problem. Car is 1 month old.
Took it to the dealer yesterday and I'm getting my tranny replaced tomorrow.
How long does it take for them to do the swapping?
I'm hoping everything can be done in a same day...I have work and I
need to get around too.

That is pure BS!!! My my car as well as many on this thread has this from day one. How do they know how you drive? Man I would be pissed.

Personally My doesnt bother me that much so that's why I have gotten this checked out, but I know if they told me that I would raise a storm.

My advice is for you to print this thread and show them, then contact NIssan Corp if they still give you problems...good luck

As for the noise going away I have 15000 miles, it's still here. I have the lighted flywheel and act clutch, its even louder now. Sounds like something broke or came loose and is getting thrown around in there. My motor shop says its normal they let me here there supercharged s2000 and 900hp skyline there clutch noise is just as loud if not louder. It sounds bad to me and I work on semi's all day but I guess it's not. I guess we will all have to see, only time will tell.

With less than 100 miles on mine, I heard the thowout bearing rattle. It sounds 'exactly' like all the other throwout bearing noise I heard on American cars I've owned over the past 35 years. None ever were anything more than a nuisance, and when I replaced the clutch and bearing, the noise always went away. It's sort of disheartening to hear it on a new $32K car, but it's just the throwout bearing, and not worth all this hoopla. I suspect people with tranny problems here are having a different problem, even though they are listening to the clutch throwout bearing noise.

Actually, it might not be the throw out bearing. My car has the same problem and turns out that it was the transmission input bearing. you can tell if you put your foot on the pedal just until the friction disc disengages from the flywheel and if you hear the same noice then it is a throw out bearing because even though the friction disc is not touching the flywheel the bearing is touching the pressure plate. if the noise changes then it is the input bearing because if the friction disc is not touching the flywheel then the input shaft of the transmission is not turning so neither is the input bearing.

yes all of the z's have a vibrating clutch...ur simply feeling all that power !! and the rattling noise when in neutral without the clutch engagment is also normal...chains !! the 1 thing that you should be conserned about is your gears..if 2nd or 3d grind..ull probably be able to get a new transmission!!!

May i ask another question, has anyone noticed that their 350Z is burning oil/or comsuming between oil changes. I just had mine monitored by the dealership with 3,200 mile I burned 9/10 of a quart of oil. They are calling Nissan headquarters/they seem to want to say it is "normal". Whatever, it is not normal. I have 21k miles on mine. This is adnormal. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Default synthetic...

Hello... I know that synthetic oil is consumed by the engine more than regular than engine oil... it's because of it's ability to stick to the cylinder walls... but 9/10 of a quart is a lot... you are definitely burning oil...

regarding the throwout bearing rattle....
My 03Z has 16000 miles on it and the throwout bearing does rattle a little bit in neutral when idling warm but it don't bother me a bit as long as it doesn't rattle when changing gears. By the way, my transmission is the original tranny and so far it's been well behaved. I've heard rattling throwout bearing in a BMW M3 6/spd., believe me I would've been pissed if I had paid 60 grand for a rattling clutch assembly. Well...I could be wrong...
