Car died on the highway...
I was driving the car last night, decided to push the VQ a bit and then floored it in 4th gear (from 4000 rpm pushing to 5000rpm). All of sudden I get hestitation then massive jerking like I hit fuel cut, and the engine started dying. I had to pull over to the shoulder and no matter how much gas I gave. It would not rev up at all...
Once I came to a stop on the shoulder, I tried cranking. It would rev to idle speed then die down right away as if it wont hold idle.
What could be the problem? My car has 86,000 km which is roughly around 53440 miles. My most recent mod is Helix V2 Test pipes with non-foulers (installed about 800km's ago). My car is 2004.5
Any input?

Think it's the crank shaft sensor....my 2005 did the same $hit to me twice! It'll bogg all of a sudden (especially during acceleration) also my CEL light came on. Car is drivable during this phase....can't let it go pass 3-4 rpm's must shift before otherwise it'll bogg.
Dealership replaced my crank shaft sensor under warrenty (twice).....hope this helps.

Had the same exact thing happen to me yesterday. Somewhat hard acceleration, then a shift, then it stalls and it won't idle for more than a few seconds when you try to crank it back up. Lasts about 5 minutes, then the car starts right up like there's nothing wrong.
If you put the car into neutral rather than a gear to coast at a high(er) rpm or speed, this has been known to stall the car. People with popchargers and sometimes K&N filterchargers (like i have) have been known to have this problem. While the crank shaft sensor suggestion could be right, it hasn't been the solution for everybody.

happened to me about 3 times, my uncle told me to pop it in nuetral and turn the ignition off and then turn the car back on (all this while moving), and the car should turn on. one time it happened to me on an exit off a ramp, LUCKILY the turn wasn't a fast instant turn, otherwise I'd probably be dead right now, I panicked and tried to turn the steering wheel and at that point, the wheel locked, brakes locked up.
I've had to put it in neutral on the highway and crank it back up also, but this last time it didn't work... engine wouldn't crank for a good four minutes. Then, I put down the drivers side window because it was getting hot and it cranked right up.
Stupid car.
Stupid car.
The strange thing is there's no check engine light and after a while it starts back up like nothing happened.
Popping into neutral didn't work for me as the moment I fire it up, it'll die again right away...
I'm going to check out the MAFS and maybe clean the TB as well. I'll take the car for the crank sensor last as none of the dealerships around are mod friendly... :S

Yeah, no CEL here either. When I was talking about putting it in neutral, I mean that's the cause of the highway stalling issue a lot of the time. I guess the ECU kinda freaks out if it's getting more air due to aftermarket filters/popchargers and sees you accelerating hard then, rather than shifting, going into neutral and letting off the clutch so the car can "coast".
The car completely shuts down, it's definitely electrical in nature. The engine will turn over, a little gas will get into the cylinders, and the ECU shuts the car down. Only after a few minutes will the car slip out of it. When it does, it starts right up like there's nothing wrong.

people who experienced this issue have the JWT popchargers. Its a known issue from time to time, but I haven't seen a thread like this in a while.
Nope, dont have popcharger.
My performance mods are as follows:
K&N Drop in with 06 Airbox
MD 5/16 ISO spacer
Helix V2 Test pipes with non-foulers
Injen Angled tips exhaust
That's about it...
I doubt it's CAS since I didn't get any CEL.
I doubt it ran out of gas as the next morning, it fired up right away and ran perfectly normal.
Been to talking some local Z guys, highest chance is the test pipes. May be screwing up the ECU's logging and causing it to malfunction... Any input on that?

I really think it has something to do with a high-airflow intake, whether it's a drop in filter with the OEM box or a popcharger.
I think the ECU freaks out when it sees you go into neutral after heavy acceleration at highway speeds. Maybe sees it as a stall or something, even though its not. The ECU is completely cutting off fuel after initial startup, it's very evident when the car turns over and dies. After several minutes the ECU returns to normal and resumes pumping gas into the engine like normal.
Prior to the last time I've been able to start the car back up while rolling on the road by turning the key completely to off and then restarting the engine while in neutral.

the air intake problem seems to only happen if you floor it and then put it into neutral. but for my situation, i was constantly flooring it in 4th gear and it always happens in 4th gear around 4000-5000rpm...
Same issue...
