Default Removing Z oil filter is a PITA!!!

Everytime I change the oil, it is such a pain to take off the oil filter. I have my V1 lip bolted on to the bumper so I can't take off the under tray. Trying to unscrew the filter thru that little opening is almost impossible. I have the craftsman adjustable oil filter remover thing and it sucks *** big time. Any techniques you guys use to remove it? Please share.

You have to remove the rear part of the undercover. I put mine on ramps and it is a ***** to remove the filter.

it's so easy. what are you talking about? Get the K+N oil filters. They will benifet you. It has a socket screw at the bottom of the filter so you can just stick a socket and wrench in there from the bottom. Very easy. I usually just twist off with my hand though. It shouldn't be on there tight.

the only downside is that it cost about 12-14 dollars per filter but aleast it's not a crappy brand. KN is very good with filtering. here is a generic pic.

I have an oil filter wrench that essentially works like pliers. It grips around the filter and when you squeeze it a bit hard, actually dents into the filter so it cant slip. Works perfectly and has made oil changes alot easier on many of my vehicles.

Im using a K&N, but after reading some posts, I wondering if it's really worth the extra expense over the Nissan OEM

Thumbs up

+_1 on K&N
Even if it was NO better than stock, I would still get them just to ease installation.

http://www.amazon.com/K-N-HP-1008-Oi...1856217&sr=8-1

$9.49 plus potentially free shipping

+1. I also use the filter pliers. It's almost effortless.

I just changed the oil on my Z this past weekend, and I don't know what you guys are talking about, but that was the easiest thing I've ever done in my life. All I did was put the Z on ramps...take off the under panel, use the oil filter key that I purchased at advanceautoparts for $3.00, and so on...took me about 45 minutes since that was the first time I did it myself & I had a bit of a problem getting the old copper crush washer off the drain plug. But I do realize you have your lip bolted onto the bumper so that might make it a bit tricky...good luck in the future : )

FYI: I got a damn good deal on the OEM oil filters through one of our sponsors..box of 20 filters and 20 crush washers!

I've got the same lip, but no bolts that interfere with the undertray.

+1 on the plier style oil filter tool. I took my undertray off, it's sitting on my balcony.

The lip covers the front bolts so u can't take it off. I just unbolt the back 4 and reach in that way. Do you take the whole thing off to do an oil change?
