Default Flooded engine?

I've had my 06' Z for two weeks now and its been running perfectly. Today I go to start it and it starts fine then dies. I try a few more times with the same result. I give it a little gas on the fourth try and it stays running. I shut down the car and start it again and it stays running.

I think to myself that its a little strange but I start driving to work anyways. About a 3/4 mile from my house I start jerking as if I'm losing power. I'm not sure how I can explain it.

The only explanation that I can give is that last night we got quite a bit of rain and I park my car next to a curb where the water can run high. Perhaps some water got into the engine.

If thats the case, do I just wait it out by driving it around for a while? Should I take it into a dealer? I've never had a flooded engine before. Any help will be appreciated.

Doesn't sound like a water issue. It have to be pretty dang high to get up in your intake, not to mention you'd have to have to engine running to create the suction to pull the water in.

Sounds more like one of your plugs isn't firing. Wait to see what other's have to say. I could be wrong

as mentioned above i doubt it is a water issue. No way for the engine to internally get water in it unless your car was submerged or runnining. Just in case, pull your MAF sensor out of your intake tube and check for condensation inside the tube, on the filter or on the MAF sensor itself.

Also, any modifications done to the car recently? It's hard to diagnose something like this over the interenet.

If your engine was hydrolocked (flooded) you wouldn't have made it out of the driveway, the car wouldn't have turned over. So check that one off your list.

The only modification the car has is an AEM air intake and that was there when I purchased the car.

I'll check the MAF sensor for any of the issues that you mentioned.

Funny thing is that I just went out to check on the car and now it starts up find and runs perfectly.

I just want to avoid this issue in the future, I think I'll bring it somewhere to get a tune up/check up.

Is the AEM intake the cold air version? If it is, that is probably your problem.

It takes a good soaking of the air filter for the codensation to make it up the tubing and effect the MAF. BUT when this does occur it usually doesn't take long for the heat of the engine and the air circulation to dry out the filter. Unless it was submerged, it might act up on you upon the initial start up, but then dry itself out during the first ride. Just a long shot, but possible.
