So opinion time...

What does everyone think of the throttle body cleaning and the other intake cleaning services that the dealer recommends (for around $600+)? Do you think that the do-it-yourself additives and/or the cleaners that are already in the fuel cover this?

Do you think that the dealer recommended services like this are even necessary -- if you are not experiencing any performance issues? Assuming you are using 91+ octane from a good place (name brand, etc.), does fuel injector or intake build-up even occur anymore?

Those cleanings are the biggest scam in the world, especially for $600 or more.

huge rip off!!! You can get the same if not better of a clean doing it yourself(am OCD about my stuff) all your really paying for is the "labor" and mechanic's time. Well if your gasing up at chevron, shell, or any top tier place on a regular basis, you should be running pretty clean already. As far as throttle body cleaning, thats cake! Just go buy some intake/throttle body cleaner at autozone and DIY. For the fuel system, the PRO-GARD from Chevron and the Lucas stuff work EXCELLENT! ANd if you you really wanna get crazy with it, do some a seafoam treatment on your gas, crankcase and intake. But you'll need a vacuum pump or whatever they are called to SLLLOWWWLY leak the seafoam into the intake and feed all the cylinders.

They use to have a 24 OZ can that you unhook the fuel pump and hook the can up to your fuel rail. Turning the car on it runs off the fuel in the can that is a cleaner. IIIII never used it,but I know of other people who swear on it. It seems like the only way to REALLY clean the injectors
