Default Switchedc from Redline back to stock tranny fluid, notchiness gone.

My tranny was starting to get real notchy in 2nd and 3rd gear, especially when cold. It was filled with Redline lightweight Shockproof. I decided to see if going back to the stock fluid would make a difference so I drained and filled it this morning. Seems like the it's a lot better. Hmmmmm.

did you have grinds before you went to Redline?

I had no grinds, just some resistance going into gear. The Redline cured the resistance, but then the grinds cropped up.

Isn't MT-90 the recommended Redline fluid for the 350Z?

Red Line's web site doesn't state whether the "Shockproof" is a GL4 or GL5, and it seems it's recommended for racing usage.

Once I have my new trans installed, I have 4 quarts of Red Line MTL/MT-90 mix ready to go in once I'm sure the "2nd to 3rd cold oil shift grind" is cured.

Did Red Line recommend the "Shockproof"?

no, they recommend mix of MTL and MT-90.

From raceboy's experience, I wonder if I should switch back to factory tranny oil? I feel the notchness too on 2nd, and 3rd..

I did the MT-90/MT-L mix a few weeks back. I feel that the shifting is a helluva lot smoother now than it was. Very "liquid" feel to it. Now, I believe that the notchiness is a function of the gate itself, as in you have to make that slide from gear-to-gear perfect or you get hung up on the gate.

An additional benefit was that my flywheel/bearing chatter in neutral with clutch out was reduced significantly.

I'm positive it's not the gate. It's a feeling of gears grinding slightly before they engage.

I have this problem and I am on stock fluids... I was going to try "redline" tranny fluid. What should I do?

Since mid-July the new trans. HAS NOT had any 2nd to 3rd upshift when cold grinding on the stock trans oil.

I'm waiting for the cooler weather to get here in October then that will be the true test. If no problems arise by November, I'll put in the RedLine mix I've had hanging around for the past 5 months.
