Angry shifter problem?

i started noticing this a few months back but has seem to gotten worse...

when i am shifting into 2nd it seems to catch right before it goes into 2nd....and it does this bout 90% of the time....and does it going into 4th bout 20% of the time. i know it has nothing to do with the clutch or tranny, but i can feel it in the shifter. i changed the fluid in my tranny with Motul to see if that would smooth it out..didnt help. its more annoying than anything and sometimes ive gotta give it a lil more muscle to get it into 2nd gear. i was thinking about taking the console and shiftboot off and see if i can see what it might be. any ideas on what could be causing this?!? thanks for the help!!!!!!!

It sounds like you are describing the feel when the synchro kicks in as you shift.

That's what it sounds like. I've also noticed that if the tranny is colder it seems to not shift as smooth. When you hit the syncrho, you'll get "halfway" and then have to wait a quarter second to continue into the gear.

Simple answer. What you are describing is a simple case of worn synchronizer gears. These are ususally made of brass, and you have worn the "points" or "tips" of the synchros, thereby getting a hesitation and resistance before the cogs fully engage. The only solution is to disassemble the tranny box and replace the worn synchros. Changing fluid will not help, though it will keep worn material out of the rest of the tranny. You guys have been power shifting far too much!

same here but whats really funny is that i just reached 20k miles . I have done my fair share of power shifting and not double clutching like im suppose to back in day(different car) but this doesnt exactly feel like busted synchros...

i have the same problem! changed my diff/gear fluid to motul and it helped a bit, shifts smoother, but it still pulls to the right a bit. does anyone know if this is under warranty or how much it would be to get this fixed? $30k cars with 16k miles on them shouldn't be having such problems...just my $.02

I have an '06 with the about 12,000 miles and it does the same thing. It's been annoying me lately and yes it is worst in the morning. Funny thing is that it only happens about 70% of the time. I noticed that if I shift slowly without using much force than I can usually avoid this hang up. Seemed to recall a thread way back discussing this and someone mentioned that maybe the shift gate required adjustment.??? Maybe someone can take their car in and tell me what the dealer says .
