Default Unusual noise coming from car

Hey guys,

First time poster here, i'm from across the pond in Ireland and have a problem with my 350z. She's an '04 model top spec (GT over here).

Right here goes:

So i'm posting this hoping that someone has heard this noise before, that's if i can even describe the noise....

The noise sounds a bit like dum-dum-dum-dum-dum, but say it really quickly and faintly....

It's coming from behind the dash, probably engine bay area and it only comes on song after the engine is fully warmed up and the car has been driven for a while, ie. When the car is started and is cold the noise in non existant... I lifted the bonnet and listened for the noise to see if i could spot anything but the actual noise of the engine ticking over drowns out the dum noise so i can't spot where it's coming from, it's only noticable when sitting in the car.

Now it's got to the point that if i'm sitting in traffic the revs start to drop to the point that the car shakes a bit like it's going to stall but the revs kick back up a bit. The whole time the car is making this dum dum dum noise.

It's nothing to do with the air con as when i turn this off i can hear the noise more clearly !! It's annoying and worrying as this noise wasn't here for the first 36k miles of the cars life but now it is and i can't get to a dealer until the the middle of Jan when i'm back from holidays !!!

Should i be worried ?? I doubt anyone has a bloody clue what noise i'm on about but i said i'd chance my arm in case anyone has heard the noise before !!

Cheers,

Pete.

I'm not very mechanically minded to be honest but if i looked under the car and got someone to rev it would i be able to hear the noise quiet loud ??

The noise never gets louder under acceleration, well not when i'm in the car anyway. And it is a very costant nosie. Even when cruising along at 60 mph you can still hear it ever so slightly.

Right guys,

I just came back from the car with my digital camera and I made an attempt to record the sound as i think it's got louder, maybe i'm paranoid !

So can ye please listen to the little bit of vid i uploaded to photobucket, turn it up loud !! And especially listen to the last few seconds of the vid as you can clearly hear it ! I blipped the throttle during the vid to show ye all that this makes no difference to the sound, it doesn't get louder or quieter when pressing accelerator !

Oh ya by the way the whole video is just darkness as i was sittin in the car with the engine running but all lights turned off

Thanks, just click the big black screen !

Pete.

You would get a code for that.

It does sound like a leak. Do this to make sure. Turn on the car, get a friend to cover the exhaust pipe exits in the back with his hands. Might need gloves cuz itll get hot. Tell him to hold. While he holds, you listen to see if the sound gets louder, if it does, its a leak.

Man, interesting sound. Sounds like a misfire or perhaps piston/lifter type issue. Do you have enough oil in the car?

WHEN you do find out, LET US KNOW, Mr. Ireland! My 'O4 Touring Coupe's only got 16+k on it, so I'd like to know ahead of time, in case it develops the
"dum-dum" sometime, down the road!
BTW, you call the hood, "bonnet"; in the Caribbean, Spanish-speakin' folks--- such as I---call it "bonete"! Much closer to "bonnet", than to "hood", don't you think?! Mexicans call it "el cofre" (the "coffer"), kinda far from either hood OR bonnet! Good luck!

Sorry for never updating this thread guys but i got the problem sorted not long after i posted the thread.

It turned out to be a faulty fuel damper at the back of the engine, Nissan installed a new fuel damper and i've never heard the noise since. Happy days. Problem sorted.

Cheers,

Pete.
