Question Passenger window just quit

How can I diagnose if it's the motor, regulator, or both?

it's up. I hear the "click" like you would hear if you tried to put up the window while it's already up. That's it. Zero movement.

If the motor makes noise and the windows doesnt move more than likely the regulator.

Thanks! South Lakeland. Even though I've lived there most of my life I don't go out there very much. I work in Tampa and besides, I'm an old married guy (45) so I don't hit the bars like I used to. That's problee why I haven't heard of it.

Dont think....its been around for a while. It's in a trailor park! The only reason I went into the joint after I got there was because they wasnt a car worth under 40k in the parking lot.

Okay. It's not "click, click, click" It's just the single click that you would hear if the window is all the way up (when working normally) and you tried to put it up.

I'm thinking it MUST be a dead motor because there's NO motor sound at all. I'm guessing it could be motor AND regulator though.

Question

Just got off the phone with CourtesyParts.com (Nissan Dealer in TX with a BIG mail-order biz). They tell me they have NEVER sold a regulator and they don't even stock 'em. Called 5 dealerships (local and mail order) and they all have the motor and none have the regulator. I'm gonna buy a motor and rip the door apart tomorrow and hope the reg. is fine since I can't get one anyway.

Did a quick search for a DIY on removing the door panel and getting to the window motor. No luck.
Any DIYs with info on the window motor access?

No doubt. Read the thread mentioned in my last post and you'll see dozens of angry people with busted motors over a 2 year period.
The good news is that there's a motor available with a lifetime warranty from Auto Zone and it's around $145 if you give them your old one back. And the instructions in that thread show how to install it too.

Mine should arrive Wed and it's next weekend's project.

I dont have time to rip apart the door for the window. I rather pay to get it done. Just yesterday the window rolled down and stop working again. I think its the regulator.

For what it's worth...
I spoke with Courtesy Nissan and they sell TONS of stuff mail order. They claim they sell 1 window motor a week but have never sold a single regulator. I called 4 dealerships in central FL and all had motors and none had regulators.

It's certainly not conclusive evidence and maybe your regulator IS broken but... if all dealerships have motors and none have regulators, I'm guessing regs don't go bad too often and motors do. - Good luck.

Oh, and check out this massive multi-year thread about bad window motors plus the included DIY on how easy it is to replace the motors and why you should buy one from Auto Zone with a lifetime warranty rather than a more expensive one from Nissan w/1 year.

Enjoy:

I just pulled the whole thing apart yesterday and cleaned it out. Working so far, but next time it fails I'll be getting a new one from Autozone.
good luck on the install
