Help! Something fell into the transmission...
...or maybe not, I am not sure, but it sure freaks me out!
I have a Touring MT, and (don't ask me why) I removed the little ashtray-like coin holder just behind the stick in the central console. I turned it over, and a small piece of plastic, about the size of a dime, fell right into the hole which leads under the central console, underneath the parking brake and who knows what else.
Does anyone know how to remove the central console cover? I found three screws: one underneath the ashtray (actually, probably more like a coin holder), and one on each side by the seats. However, even after I unscrew all three I can't lift the console unit as it seems to be attached to the console boot/finisher.
I read the Nissan Technical Bulletin NTB02-102 (http://members.***.net/vqracer/NTB02-102.pdf), and it says "Refer to page IP-14 of the 2003 350Z Electronic
Service Manual for console boot removal information." Great!!! Does anyone have the service manual?!?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated...

I don't think you have a thing to worry about. That piece is not inside you transmission, it is sealed. It probably fell out or will fall out, did you look on the ground where you were parked? (I assume you WERE parked!) There is a very remote chance that it could jam your shift linkage but I doubt it.
Thanks.
I actually took the car to the dealer to fix an unrelated problem (rear view mirror rattle), and I also asked them to get the piece of plastic out. I was told that the transmission (and the driveshaft, etc.) are sealed and nothing you drop through the hole in question can get anywhere near them. However, they did say that whatever was dropped in there could get caught in the parking brake mechanism, so I was glad I got rid of it.

Bode
