Chatter? Rattle? ... not sure what to call it but concerned
I have an '04 Roadster with 16,000 miles. I bought it a year ago with 6,800 miles (from the proverbial little old man...). Anyway, since I've owned the car I've had a rattling sound when I engage 1st gear and slightly less from 1st to 2nd. The sound goes away completely at higher speeds. It almost sounds like a metal cowl (or something) but after reading about the various clutch/transmission issues, I'm a bit concerned. Also, the sound seems to be louder after the car has been driven a bit.
Another thing - when I drive the car aggressively (not overly, just fun - frequent shift changes when trying to keep up speed in traffic - lane changing, etc.) I get a burning smell. It doesn't come into the interior and I only notice it when I get out. Could it be brakes? Clutch? At the same time there's an unbelievable amount of expansion/contraction noises from the undercarriage (I expect that, but not that much).
Thanks for any insight!

The 350Z has a noisey, nochty and high catch clucht and tranny. The fact that it already has a short near custom shifter is neat and the gears are close together makes them fun to throw, beware of shifting from 4th to 5th gear. Once you get the feel of that you will be a driving in tall cotton.
I can't see how you can hear that with all the wind and engine noise. Don't worry be happy, its a Z-car!!

Q: Do all Z's make a "clunk" or "chatter" sound when disengaging the clutch? Is it normal to hear a whirring or slight grinding noise when the clutch is engaged at idle?
A: Yes, these sounds are totally normal. Furthermore, the Z's transmission is rather noisy. Shifts will seem especially noisy when you are in an enclosed parking lot, tunnel, etc.

You deserve to be tongue lashed a little for not reading the sticky at the top, 100 most common questions. It's frustrating to have such a great resource available and hardly any newbies use it.
Thanks guys. I appreciate the replies. I do agree that the 100 most common questions is a great resource... I read through them extensively prior to posting.
As for the smell (yes, I did search the forum and found quite a bit on this)... any idea's on that topic?

Wow... some of you are pretty hard-core about the "unwritten rules". I got the impression that the forums were for people interested in communicating!
Guess I need to go learn how to drive my 6-speed, re-read all the existing posts and reevaluate my intelligence overall. I'll get right on that.
Even though I'm thoroughly impressed by the effort to embarrass me, I think I'll get over it.
